National Countrysports Fair - Moira 29/30 May

Just over a week to go to the Moira Game Fair. Am really looking forward to it as it will be the first show I've been to this year. Hope the weather holds!

It states on the website that the winer of the show at Moira cannot be considered for the top prizes at Ballinlough. Why is this? If it is two different days and different judges well if the dog that wins moira can win at Ballinlough then why should it not be so.

I'm simply a visitor not one of the organisers and yes i seen that on their sites. My guess would be that with the top prize for each show being a trip to the midland game fair, it would allow more than one dog the chance to compete for their country at the midland. Sounds like what they're trying to do is offer the chance to send over a strong team of dogs to the midland. I could be wrong but if this is the case it sounds to be a good idea.

Interesting to read your Quotes TC - it would appear you must be very close to the organisers because you really only appear on here to plug their show. However fair play to the organisers for playing'catch up' with us at last with decent prizes for the terrier & lurchers. However at the Midland they represent the qualifying shopw not the country as our qualifiers for this competition represent the Fair not the country. Where one can represent one's country and win a prestigious International title is by qualifying at Shanes Castle or Birr Castle Fairs for the final of the Five Nations Championship at Birr.

with all due respect albert,TC answered a question and feel you were quite blunt with him.as for prestigious title then may we all come down to reality,this will be a show of 5 dogs,each of whom has won an entered class,that is the reality of it so lets not blow ones trumpet too hard

Always a good show to visit is Moira. A lot of people agree it's been the best gamefair in Ireland this few years.

Probably only those who haven't been to Shanes or Birr! Seriously its not a bad show but not the 'world class' one claimed by its organisers nor does it live up to some of the other claims made.

Let me be brutally honest in my opinion the Moira game fair in Ireland is one of the best fairs I've ever attended and I've been there a few times. I can't compare it to any other Irish show co's I've never been to any but! a visit to Moira is money well spent in my opinion

 

As for the Five Nations International Terrier Championship that was conceived by me and was totally my concept but without the massive help from others including "The Great Game Fairs of Ireland" and Albertj's personal contribution and good will the competition just would'nt be going ahead!!

 

There are actually 6 dog's in the final and my emphasis is on working or entered terriers. I'm a member of a working terrier club and took part in all the pro-hunting and pro-docking demonstrations on behalf of "THE WORKING TERRIER" Working/entered terriers play a massive and important role in my life!!

 

The Dog's that win the entered class qualifiers have a lot to go through before they qualify, its a different independant judge as opossed from the judge in the open show's who makes the decision of 1st 2nd or 3rd and some of the entered class's I've seen so far have had some substantsial numbers entered and a lot of competition.

 

I and others decided quite early on, in the planning that The Irish Terrier lads have free rein on the rules and stipulations on their own situations

its not often i get involved in this type of post but is it not gettin old this rubbish between these two fairs.both are good events in their own right and both have their own problems also.these events help hunting and the publics opinion of it ,these arguments dont.

Take your point. It does grate a little on my nerves to see the organisers of the 'competing' shows come on under an alias. I cannot understand that if they wish to promote their shows they cannot do it under their own name. In fact in spite of differences we did 'rub along' together without much angst until they started to use our brand name 'irishgamefair' on twitter to attack BASC ( and the BASC Fair) and to attack the RSPB ( who in turn thought it was me) and accused me of encouraging illegal activity.

 

This has provoked the recent'hostilities'. I have made it clear that I will not have any problem with their event if they stop trying to 'tap into' the success of our brand names. And that I certainly won't be using their brand names to promote our events! Is that not fair enough?

 

However the rivalry on this forum has not all been bad in that prizes for the terriers & lurchers at both events has risen dramatically, through Tom' good offices I have been able to persuade my colleagues to pump prime a competition for working dogs and we have also addressed the perceptionof question marks about judging by bringing in a high profile selection of judges.

 

 

From now on I will put on my smiley face if I reply to the organisers of Moira ( whether it be under their own name or one of their aliases)!

 

Hope to see you at Shanes on 26/27 June and Birr on the 28/29 August.

 

We are also happy to take show reports for the magazine and forum for ALL shows including Moira & Ballinlough!

thanks for the reply albert,i always look at things as simple as possible and dont wish an argument from my earlier post,we in the fieldsports community get enough mythical stories told about us to the uneducated public about our chosen sport without helping them on.anyway enough said on the matter. i will give you a shout at shanes and youre more than welcome up the road to mourne on sunday

Hi,I would like to clarify the confusion surrounding the top prize at Moira/Ballinlough ,the winner of The Lurcher & Terrier

at Moira will receive the Top Prize of an ALL EXPENSES PAID TRIP TO THE MIDLAND GAMEFAIR FOR TWO PEOPLE + £100 SPENDING MONEY.

So if the winner of Moira win Ballinlough then we think its only fair that the Reserve Champion goes to the Midland GameFair

as a extra representitive for N,Ireland / Ireland.

But the winner will still receive the Top Trophy ,Dog Meal & Sporting Dog Equipment for their achievments on the day.
