swanseajack 227
As for times of year for moleing I think most folk trap between October and March before the breeding season starts. Business is business, there is no closed season on moles... I will trap them whenever someone pays me to do so. Here's the traps, laid 3, 3 pinged... !! and it's in the furthest place away from farm... feckers set them all again, added another two, little bit tighter now... Enjoying the sun on their ready made deckchairs !! Oh!!! and this, there's appx 30 plus of these, he said she doesn't want anyone shooting them, she said, this afternoon, why oh why does everything congregate on my land, they've trashed my fences.... sweet talking Jack was in there, hmmm, perhaps you should thin them out a bit me dear !!! bit too many don't you think!!! I'll have to point out the rest of the trashed fences and maybe drive the sheep through there.... Quote Link to post
John Keswick 119
Your just using the barrel types? If i get a real stubborn b*****d, i will alternate traps, from duffus type to talpex. Just confuse the little shit and he WILL give up! Quote Link to post

Butler 396
Just an observation but them moles look to be caught "well back" Try adjusting the trigger pins this should help with your catch rate and help stop the "fills". Quote Link to post
iluvmarcus 23
During the hot weather as the top layers of soil start to dry out the worms move deeper down into the soil structure therefore the moles follow. I personally think that deeper tunnels are more structurally sound than surface tunnels and don't need as much maintenance and this is possibly why we don't see such high levels of mole activity during periods of hot weather. As for times of year for moleing I think most folk trap between October and March before the breeding season starts. I am not an expert but I do own and run a mole control business and do very well from it. There is a fantastic book called "The Mole" by a guy called Keith mellanby which is fantastic its show his study of moles in a man made tunnel system and explains about the life cycle and everything you could ever want to know about moles and well worth a read. All the best 410Phil thanks for that phil, where could i get a copy of that book . i really like to learn more about them and there different traits. Quote Link to post

I agree with you John business is business and I also trap moles when I am asked to it was just an observation that this period is usually my busiest so try to get as much work done in this period to make up for the lack of work during the hotter periods of the year. Anyway foxes for me for the next few weeks. All the best Phil Quote Link to post
Guest bluemink
Best traps on the market these...easily. I cant stand trapping moles in summer, dry ground, boiling heating. I have done a few recently and I have a few more to do, but I think I'll leave it until we get a bit of rain, start of june they say... Quote Link to post

John Keswick 119
Exellent going swanseajack Just one point, from your photos, it looks like a few of them have been caught well back. You need to tinker with the triggers to make them real sensitive to fire, also bend the trigger foward so when the mole goes in he doesnt have to go past the killing wire too much before he hits the trigger. This will result in a catch around the chest, like the first photo Quote Link to post
