Selling game

Hi all,

 

I was thinking, do I need a game license to sell game such as rabbits, woodpigeons, deer, ducks to a game dealer. What prices should I expect and how do I find someone to buy the game?

not sure about deer think you need ds certificates but rest are fine to sell. im getting £1 for gutted rabbit 40p a woodie.

yes im pretty sure you have to pass your dcs1 before you can sell deer to butchers and other people. im sure one of the lads who has got that will be on in a moment to state the facts.

Game licence is history in England ! Dsc 1 [Trained hunter] for selling venison to GD/butchers.

 

Deer about £1.00 lb last time i sold some i got £0. lb

Rabits £0.50 - 1.00 each

Woodies £0.25p

Ducks not sold them i have bought them for as little as £ 2.50 a brace

 

Not rearly worth the effort unless you have a shoot or Large freezer [ then some GD's don't like frozen and drop your price]

 

To get the best prices you need to pluck and prep

rabbit £1.50 clean each

woody x4 1/2 breast £1

Lee - as above you will need a "large game meat hygiene license" for selling venison, this comes as part of your DSC level one, but can be taken separately.

 

There are plenty of people out there shooting deer and supplying to game dealers that don't have their DSC / meat hygiene ...but they will have to provide the "pluck" for inspection by a vet.

 

I also opted to take the "small game meat hygiene license" this covers you for everything from rabbit to venison and everything in between.

 

As "trained" hunters we are only allowed to shoot, gut / clean and skin the animal......no butchery of any sort.....as soon as your run a knife through or chop something up that is a totally different ball game.

 

As for prices:

 

Venison: I refuse to sell for £1 per lb as it is joke! I had a dealer ring me other day and ask for some and I told him I would rather let my dogs eat it as they then sell it for £17.99 per kg!!!! Besides I have sweet FA spare anyway as I don't shoot that many.

 

As for rabbits £1.30 gutted and skinned or "ready for the pot" to a local butcher
