Steep incline shooting from a hide tip

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

Just a quick tip for shooting up a steep incline from a hide.

It may help someone who is intending on doing some brancher shooting.

I also cover gravity and trajectory.

Remember not to go to far back with the hide though or you will over compensate for the hold under that you need to apply to hit the steep target and slant range will come into play and you will have to aim high with hold over to hit your target.

Just be aware though that you may not be able to build the hide slightly beyond your normal zero point due to thickness of the tree leave or terrain so you will have to go back to standing at the base of the tree your shooting at and aiming straight up with a steep target angle.

In this case your pellet will definitely fly high.

Another tip to help you here with estimating the required hold under is to shoot at a tree which is about the same height as the ones that you will be shooting into. Make sure that you stand at the same distance from the base of the tree and shoot at a point on the tree where the birds will be perched.

Note where the pellet impacts on the tree by keeping your scope cross hair onto the aim point and seeing where the impact is above the cross hair.

This is now where you need to aim on the corvids head in the real tree to compensate for your hold under

Here is the new link to the footage as I have slightly edited the video to make it easier to understand  and more ballistically correct for the so called air rifle professors and ballistic Gods that keep emailing me from YouTube LOL.

You always get 1 don’t you?

Bloody cyber hunters I call them, or read it and I’ve done it hunters.

Probably never hit a thing in their whole life’s :wallbash:
