Can anyone advise me please what the going rate is to have a lamb slaughtered and butchered at the butchers.

I have been asked by a neighbouring farmer to do ten lambs for him however am completely unsure what to charge as when I have done this previously I have eccepted lamb carcasses in exchange not money.

The going rate is £20 - £30 per lamb in total. This price includes vet inspection, MHS grading and disposal of SRM.

Be careful though, unless you are a licensed slaughterman working in a registered abattoir, you are not legally allowed to slaughter animals for human consumption.

The only exception is that farmers are allowed to slaughter their own animals, for the use of them and their immediate family - which effectively means that no-one else can do it.

I do know of at least one prosecution (by trading standards) of a slaughterman who went around farms killing stock for farmers.

If you get caught, it'll be a large fine for you and the farmer, and you can wave goodbye to any gun licences you have.

Cheers for that. I will give it a good read through to check im legal. I had previously used the following as a reference:

You need to be aware of the title of that document:

The Slaughter of Sheep for Private Consumption by the Owner

The law (which is an ass) clearly states that only the owner of the stock may slaughter his own stock for consumption by members of his or her household.

That means that you may not (legally) slaughter stock on their behalf, even if it is for their own consumption.

For the amount of potential hassle involved, I'd refer him to the nearest (small) abattoir that offers a contract killing service.
