Recommended Posts

I think beddy whippet it is then!

JF1970 what a little corker!

if any one hears of a decent little lurcher let me know.

cheers all.

If you know of anyone in the area with a whippet bitch in season you would be welcome to use my collie x over her and take a pup-might even have one myself!

PS the ferrets are doing great!

The beddy whippet should keep charles entertained until the mastiff executioner arrives on the scene. When you say working mastiff, has the mastiff played a similar role before or has it been for different type of work? Im a big fan of mastiffs but have never heard of them working as anything other than security guards so I would be interested to hear.

the mastiff is a part time worker / running dog of sorts. yes he has seen work in the past not a lot, but a few outings her and there. thre is other people on here who have mastiffs working as well mate. and retrieving to hand! mie is Aalano espanol x rustic neapolitan bu there is pure breed bullmastiffs that work on here to.

I saw the topic of the first cross mastiff x grey now that i think of it. would you be tempted to go this way?

I would love to have enough experience with running dogs to be able to comment - but I don't to be honest! But what I can tell you is this: Mastiff's are very capable working dogs and are a lot more intelligent that people think. They are also a lot quicker than people think, as long as you don’t have a show type / heavy boned line. HOWEVER mastiffs are not for the faint hearted or the inexperienced - try holding one back when he has seen some thing he shouldn't in the lamp!

The best person to ask regarding mastiff x lurcher is really "bullmastiff" on here. He has a bull lurcher and a working mastiff, as well as one of their pups that he is bringing on at the moment and he has a lot more experience with both breeds.

Check out one of the Alaunt link that was on here recently - these might be the sort of dogs you want! Not for faint hearted on inexperienced either though

Cheers

I believe you picked me up wromg my friend. I am not interested in getting an Alaunt or mastiff cross, Im trying to help you decide what would suit you best and was putting forward the point that you might not have to go far from home if you liked the mastiff type dogs. ie get a greyhound as your next dog. Im sure this "bullmastiff" guy you speak of would give you advice.

hahaha sorry mate!

cheers stormy - im going to have ferrets next season myself by the look of things. we'll have to get out when ferreting season starts. might even have my lurcher pup by then, it'd be good for him to get some experience before i start running him, don't wanna over do it and break the fellas heart.
