jigsaw 11,875
This is aimed at the people with more than 1 terrier,I have 4 young dogs ranging from 13 months to 15 months, all pats,2 are brother/sister,and 2 from different litters.I have a big dog,lakie/bull/russel and hes a lump of a dog,I have 1 bitch that came real small and 2 that are 12-14 inches and nicely shaped. The point i'm coming to is the little 1 is a wicked little fu...r always 1st to start trouble,I had them out the forestry yesterday for a few hours and all were running about and bushing a few rabbits, the little 1 is the only 1 that wont take to the cover, she waits outside and the others hunt about, the minute the 1st terrier attempts to exit the cover shes on it like a cobra snapping and growling like a serpent(do serpents growl?)I always found the dogs that fight for no reason usually make poor earth dogs, she gets all the other dogs riled up and it can start real trouble amongst the lot of them.I have promised her to my mate and he is taking her on in a fortnight.Shes a liability in my yard as I keep 2 bull terriers also and I dont need a troublesome mutt as there will be only 1 winner if she picks a fight on the wrong dog. What's your opinion on dog agressive terriers,do you own them and have you had them in the past, how did they fare out?Just thought this might be a good topic.Jigsaw Quote Link to post
Guest midnight_runner
years ago i worked terrier rustles border lakey crosses a mate had a rustle every time another dog tried to go to ground this fecker would have a go it was worse when they got something above ground all hell would break loose [he kept the dog we boy cotted him] you dont need the hassle Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
Had a Border/Lakeland a few years back and he was blue murder with other dogs. He started all the bother with the bull terriers and he'd never back down. Made an average earth dog but paid for his belligerence with his life. What I would say is that dogs that get aggro with puppies have been b*****ds later in life in my experience. Quote Link to post
diggory 130
i have 3 bitches and 1 dog,the bitches barely tolerate each other and it would be a disaster if 2 got to ground together, there old parkes /wheeler the dog is very placid until he meets his quarry ! good hunting Quote Link to post

Guest David!
I never had much luck working an excited, pack of terriers. Brushing tends to lead to excitement/jealousy, and you'll always have one that is more of a b---h than others. She may be fine working alone. I had 3 Pat bitches at any one time - one was good with all dogs as long as they knew she ruled the roost...another was pretty laid back and only once did I see her try and get it on - and I think it was due to my praising the older bitch at a kill...and the little black bitch would attack either one of them at any time, all the time... I've seen this with Pat's almost all the time - work a pair... I've worked two brothers... But 3 or more = trouble, and you can never be too certain that they won't take a dislike and start kicking each others' a--. Quote Link to post
bill88 6
I have a 6 year old lurcher bitch, and a 12 month old patt dog. They are both very good natured with people and the bitch is fine with other dogs. The patt is an absolute nightmare though where other dog's are concerned. It started when he was about 8 months old,and has got worse.I took him out ratting with a mate's terrier's,and ended up having to prise the little fecker off my mate's best terrier!Another time we took him to watch some other dog's working, and he spent the whole time spinning round the spike and barking like f**k.Whether or not he make's the grade, only time will tell? He's been to ground on a couple of occasions (accidentally)second time i was very impressed, and last weekend he marked and bayed a vixen above ground in a quarry,as soon as my lad got to him he stopped baying and got down to business. As i said he might end up being nothing but trouble, but my old man always reckoned,if you took the fire out of a terrier it would end up good fer nothing. mouse 282
can i just ask why you are using 4 patts to bush rabbitts mate. Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,875
I dont use 4 to bush rabbits mouse,I went about last year and got the 4 in the hope I might end up with 2 or 3 decent dogs,I have to travel about 10 miles to get a place to walk about without meeting any other terriers/dogs.There aren't that many rabbits in this area but they do hunt up the odd 1 there. These dogs are for earth work only.I do a lot of ferreting also but we dont use dogs, just nets.Soon I'll have a lurcher for the ferreting.I was forced to get rid of my terriers a few years ago due to sickness in the family and now I'm trying to get back in the game.In the future if anyone has a well bred litter they might be kind enough to contact me if they have 1 for sale.My aim is to keep 2 good workers and a lurcher as space is limited where I live, small garden and 5 kennels here.
