set yourself a budget and step into a shop like jessops or somewhere research the net... etc..

i've bought the canon 1000d as a starting into the DLSR bracket...... kay also has the same as does sporting shooter, j darcy has the 50d i think, And muttle has a canon also I THINK, Some of the kit and lens will make you wince at the price believe me........icon_eek.gif

not sure what thumbstick uses but his images are stunning too, As are romany's

It's all down to you, and budget of course....lol

i'd recommend the canon 1000d as a first dlsr, its not bad too get the hang off.... quality lenses are where the money goes......

Snap.

Either the Canon 1000D or the Nikon D3000 is a good starting point. For a little more money the Pentax k-x is a very high spec camera too... Most of these come with a standard 18-55 lens, so if you want to do wildlife or action shots you would probably need an extra lens in the 70-300mm range.

I personally use Canon, but these days all new dslrs will deliver good images (if you know how to use them)

I would not advise anybody which camera to buy but you may wish to consider a few points.

What is your budget

What do you want to photograph

Is the weight of the camera an issue.

DSLR

Point and press

Or a bridging camera

For myself I do not worry about the camera body too much as long as it has aperture priority, shutter priority and manual settings. If I had the money I would plump for Nikon but I don't so its Canon for me, I would always spend as much money as possible on a good quality lens( the one that your going to use the most) and the wider the aperture the better.

My lens kit is as follows

Canon 70-200 mm 2.8 is lens very expensive but worth its considerable weight in gold.

Canon 2 x converter which makes the above lens a 140 - 400 mm 5.6.

Canon 24-70 mm 2.8 lens. This is my general purpose lens.

Sigma 105 2.8 mm macro lens. I bought sigma because I don't do a lot of macro photography and couldn't justify the cost of a Canon lens.

Sigma 10-20 mm wide angle 4.5/5.6 lens bought for the same reason as above.

Camera body

30d

40d

5d

also a 580 ex flash

That more or less is my kit and all of it has been bought second hand. One piece of vital information I forgot to mention, it doesn't really matter which camera you buy if you have a passion for your subject (plants, animals, hunting shooting and fishing etc) and you understand it you will get good photographs. Good luck and hold on to your hard earned cash until your sure you are buying what you need to do the job.
