lee-kinsman 34
The chickens I would recommend for a back garden or built up area is Brahma or orpingtons. They are very quiet and very tame, great for children to pick up and play with. They lay about 200 eggs per year, however, the best layer for me would be the light sussex and black rock though they are quite active chickens that require a bt of room. All the best, Lee

ghengis 4
For egg laying its got to be a hybrid, black rock, speckley.isa brown or columbian black tail For meat i used to breed a few dorking, slow growing but get to a good size around 10lb or quicker growing a ross cobb but for character and looks its got to be large fowl aseel, hatched a trio 4 years ago, awesome birds then crossed with some shamo`s a mate had stunning birds, sorry no pictures. whatever you choose im sure you will soon get the bug and it will go from 2 or 3 to 10-15 lol Looking at getting a trio of aseels or aseel x shamo if anyone know of any?? Marans £25 try phoning and they say they have sold out! Who says there is no money in poultry keeping! With all these food programmes on the TV about small holdings etc.. the prices of poultry and the demand has blown through the roof! Bovan Nervas, suffolk/plymouths, columbines, warrens, leghorns, all very good layers and hardy birds.
