bigbulls 26
Our female sat three eggs last season that turned out to be infertile. I took a bit of advice from Jasper regarding perch heights in the flight and she is sitting five eggs, two of which have just hatched. What do you breeders of bops use to hold the close rings on please and is it three days at which they go on, ps Thanks Jasper. Quote Link to post
romany52 313
With Harris hawks ,it's more like 10 days when the rings go on mate. If they're loose just leave another day or so. Have a look at the biggest one at about 8 days, then work from there. Quote Link to post

jasper65 6
Thats a top result Bigbulls.... Breeding been a bit weired here this year with all the birds going down late, One Gos layed her first egg in May and usually lays second week of aprill and a Pere delayed things by a good two weeks compared to the year before, I have birds doing just clutches of three and others that never came in at all properly ..... It could be the late cold winter or me moving I have no idea..... If I ring my Harris's earley to save going in again I use some Micropore tape! just roll it round the ring so it creates a cone shape towards the foot, as the birds leg expands the Micropore will split apart without nipping, I have used it many many times without a problem mate. I have a spyhole set up at the top of all the aviaries set at a angle to look straight into the nest, you can always use a step ladder to just lean over a watch to see the rings have stayed on but like I say I have never had a problem before... Good luck with the birds Pal Jasper Quote Link to post

The refrence to perch hights was only that it could have been a reason for the eggs not being fertile. "Jasper" suggested that i might need to lower perch hights to make sure the male had pleanty of clearance above him for treading. I wouldnt like to start guessing the reasons for what you are mentioning bud, if i can give you any advice its to PM "Jasper" and get his take on it. All the best bud. Quote Link to post
