Hi all, I just been granted my sgc as you might have read in my other posts. I was just wondering have anyone got any of the semi`s. I shoot alone or with a friend that has a sx3. We mainly do rough shooting. I had a go of a 12bore o/u yesterday and had a go of a sx3 today. I really enjoyed shooting the sx3, but I have been advised against buying a semi by a few guys, but they seem a bit like marmite. It wasnt the fact of a 3 shot that really done it but how comfortable it was to shoot. I went to my local gun-shop which is a traditional small shop with a old boy that is a gunsmith not a salesman, and he said people hate semis because they used to jam and due to the fact of not knowing whether they are loaded or not. Just some thoughts if anyone got any opinions.

Hi i have a fabarm 6-shot & a beretta urika2 & the urika2 fires every thing i have tryed in it with out 1 jam from 28g-50g loads & i love the auto very good for me. I use it at pigeons/rabbits/wildfowling/foxing etc great gun to have in the cabnet.

I have used semi's and found that they are just as comfortable as any shotgun that fits well, however I shoot with a U/O 12g and the reason is that a double barrel O/U or SbS is far quicker and easier to clean and less likely to jam or miss fire. I do alot of wildfowling which sometimes requires getting low in the marsh and this can be a messy business.

However for general rough shooting and game they'll be as good as any other.

You get what you pay for with few exeption, franchi , pietta , bakial, superb value for money, Betetta made, good gun, just over price. Browning madeby other company, you pay for name, some Browning same as, rusian, turkish & avoid cheeper turkish gun , maybe good price, but waste all you cartrage. you hit nothing , becas bad pattern!!

semi is good gun for crop control, pigeon rabbit, especially 8+ shot, good fun. :D

I use the Beretta Urika 2 mate and to be honest it is a great all round shotgun it can be a bit of a pain to clean but this gets easier with practice,Ive never ever had a jam even on the lighter loads it simply cycles everything,However I would recomend that if using a semi on clay shooting ground always keep the barrels pointing upwards loaded or not and invest in a safety plug so that people can see instantly that your gun is safe from a fair distance away .

I changed from a O/U to a Beretta Urika 2 and haven't looked back.As Night hunter said if your on the clay ground you'll need an auto safe to show clear, and they're generally frowned upon on some formal shoot days.

But if your mainly out rough shooting / Wildfowling or sat in a hide they're the dogs.

I have a semi, a pump, a sbs and a o/u, and so can compare all 4 for you. I love the semi, mines a beretta al391. Ive put thousands and thousands of cartridges though it, mainly on the clays. You can easily put 200 through it in a session and have no problems with recoil or a sore shoulder. Mine fires anything from low power 21g clay loads, upwards. Ive only ever had it not feed the next cartridge twice in the 6 or 7 years ive had the gun and the thousands ive put through it. I personally tend to clean it maybe 2 or 3 times a year and thats it.

For me it was a great choice, its easy to use, light, reliable and I find it fast on the clays. Mines a 30" version, but lightning quick when getting on that 2nd target. Looking at the 2nd hand prices, mines held its value really well and has hardly depreciated at all.

I did actually buy the o/u for clays as I fancied a change, but find myself moving back to the semi all the time. In fact, my brother now uses my semi more than the other guns also.

With regards to people "not knowing if its loaded or not", I have to say if you have the gun in your hand, you should always know if its loaded. And, if the people around you do not trust you enough to be safe then should you really be shooting with them? Ive only had "comments" about using a semi once and that was from some stuck up old bloke who id just beaten at a round of skeet.

The only other gun ive got which I seem to be using as much as my semi is my cheapie sbs. Mainly because I love being different, and if I take it to the clay range, I can guarentee im the only one there shooting with a sbs.

Well i`m bringing up a pointer pup so the gun is for game, I got a comment today that a local lad shot 3 geese and if he didnt have the semi he would have lost the last goose. I`d rather end the day on a good note. Just time to decide what to buy, I quite fancy the webley 800 series.
