jill going bald

Recommended Posts

I've got a jill who's heavy with kits(30+ days)and she's started losing fur on her back legs and along her flanks.Theres no sign of any rash or anything thats irritating her its puzzling has the 2 other jills are fine,I know I should take her to the vet which I will do tomorrow.I haven't kept jills for years let alone bred them so does anybody think the jill losing her fur is maybe some kind of hormone based thing from her being pregnant?....John

jill losing her fur

Hi John, this could be one of three things.

First, simply the molt (most likely).

Second, simply a hormone based reaction (possible).

Third, Adrenal disease (outside chance).

Personally I would not rush to the vet at this stage and would wait and see what happens. If it is the molt or hormones then it will sort it's self out. If adrenal disease then to be honest the operation is prohibitive and risky. There is a method to help with the symptoms.

To put your mind at rest, I would simply say that the Jill is molting and would give her vitamin and cod liver oil supplements for the next few weeks.

If things do not improve, then I would consider a trip to the vets.
