just got myself a treadmill for the dogs,mate of mine has one and keeps the dogs in fine condition,just wondered what sort of regime you start with,build up to, length of time,as much as you can tell me really,thanks rob

 

not interested in ANY snide comments,have seen the posts regarding these,so only people that use their dogs on one please,

Depends if its free running or elctric......if its electric its only likely to be any good for walking/slow trot....if its free running the dog should be able to open right up.......always used both myself a dog can walk/trot a slow elec mill all day whereas a fast running slat mill you will need to keep an eye out to make sure the dog dont overdo it.....for an unfit dog 5 minutes fast running on a free running slatmill will tire him out but that same dog will walk/trot a slow elec mill for hours.

Takes a dog a while to get used to a slatmill as well......just build the dog up progressively using common sense....ive had dogs that in the peak of fitness would run a slatmill for 2 hours going up and down the rev range using the elec mill to cool off etc....for normal everyday fitness the dog will pretty much show you whats right for him.

Some folk call them a lazy mans tool.....but in my opinion its better to condition a dog with a mill than to either miss days due to weather or work a dog soaked through to the skin !...guess it just depends what your needing from a dog......if its the type meant for people might be as well to board up the sides,a dog will always work one better when he,s facing forward all the time ....good luck

iv made a ply box that sits over it,dogs seem much better all-ready on it,its just for those odd occasions like you say to get me out of trouble,cheers mate

just dont forget to walk the dog first and let it empty itself its no use just putting it on a mill you ll only bowl the piss in them and end up with kidney problems etc
