Not your average shoot

Hello guys,

Back for the weekend from Bristol ,finished my 2nd year of University, has been a hard few weeks but I got there in the end.

I have to go back on monday for 2 weeks of excavation on a proper site, one of the places I dug last year, should be a good laugh, and also I have learned alot in a year so should be able to get really stuck in.

So I got home yesterday about 5 o clock, grabbed a snack and the HW95K which I actually took to Bristol with me this time as I know a guy who hunts there at University, knows someone who has some land but apparently hes a terrible hunter so I wanted to try show them how it was done!!

Got to the permission (home not Bristol), set out my pellet catcher and a target at 25 metres to test the zero as she had been in the car etc and had a feeling she may be the tinniest bit out. Fired off a few shots, got her back on centre then move dout to 30 metres to practise a few shots slowly moving out further and further (its been a few weeks since I've been shooting).

Just as I was getting my holdover in place for the 30 metre shot, I heard a huge screech in the distance. Being up on a track which sits on one side of the hill I had a clear view of the road on the other side, hundreds of metres away however, but still a good view.

As I heard the screech I had this siking feeling and as I turned couldnt believe my eyes

:icon_eek: <-my expression!

It was a newish Renault Clio, completley airbourne like I've never seen before, its shockig seeing somethig like a car with all its size and weight, quite literally just flying through the air.

Due to the sound delay when I heard the screech he had already been i nthe air for a second, and I only saw three quaters of the crash unfold not the whole thing. Its hard to remember clearly but he was flipping length ways over and over while barrell rolling, a real forumla one style crash but in the countryside!!

It finally dug into the verge for one more flip and to my dismay landed full force flat on the roof with a huge crushing bang. I dropped my rifle down adrenaline pumping and actually she shouted 'oh f*ck'. I ran to my car and got my phone, dialled 999 looking at the crash site. No othe car was involved but a car was passing the Clio just before it happened and they had stopped at the top of the hill but werent getting out. I knew I would get no signal down where the car was now lying on its roof destroyed and signal take sa few minutes to get even on the track where I was,I tried twice and no luck and just jumped in my car and sped down the track, joined the road and drove upto the car. As I got there the young lad was just finally getting out the back window, bleeding. I was amazed as I truly thought there would be mulitple fatalities/injured in the car. If someone showed me that crash and said palce your bets on someone surviving I would have put every penny I've got on them not. I went over and offere dthe guy some water who was now sat on the verge with the lady from the car that passed them. Understandably he was in real shock, didnt know where he was, name, phone number etc. Was worried about his parents being angry with the car being destroyed! He was about 17-18, and although had cuts, he was not badly injured. His head had taken a real bashing and was red so we kept him talking, but he seemed ok. The look in his eyes was of someone who had just been born again and after it all calmed down alittle bit I said to him he has no idea how close he had just been to losing everything. A doctor then turned up passing by, with his daughter who later told us the guy had lost his older brother in a car crash a few years ago!! Talk about bad luck.. 10 minutes till the police got there, 20 until the ambulance, 25 until fire engine. Ok response for being out in the country but stil coould be quicker. I'm so relieved that I wasnt thrown into a position where I had dead/dieing with only me to help them as you would feel quite helpless. Gave my police statement etc and eventually went.

Heres some pictures.

p.s I didnt shoot after that, too much adrenaline / time for dinner

Going shooting now, later and tomorrow so hopefully have some good news!

You really have no idea how intense this crash was! Pictures dont do it justice. The woman who he drove past said he was going so so fast - lesson learned the hard way eh?

Drive safe lads!

First pic is view I saw it from. To put things in perspective the crash began more or less where the blue car is!!

Good read that Jack and im glad for the sake of the driver, the person in the other car and you that he was ok and not dead.

Dealing with dead bodies isnt nice mate, especially if they are mutilated.

I look forward to hearing about your next outing.

Just goes to prove how importnat it is to carry comms with you when out shooting in remote areas.

Hi Jack.

Sounds like your doing well at Uni mate, and enjoying a spot of time off

Not what you expect to see while out with the rifle is it  .

Glad everyone was ok.

From your post it sounds like a young chap with a lead foot and no experience.

Trouble is, its normaly somone else they kill, not themselves.

Hope your next trip out isnt so traumatic buddy.

ATB.

Cheers mate, well wasnt what I was expecting to be writing up about ahah! I've got a few rabbits and done a few write-ups while you've been out in the field if they are a few pages back, had a target sesh just now and waiting till a bit later to go in for a full hunt!

Yeh you've got it bang on there mate. Happens all the time, but our roads are so mad that its a high price to pay if you mess up. I've got almost 6 years no claims(touch wood) and I'm 22, I've got an old Vauxhall Corsa that starts to shake when you go over 70 so I've never been into pushing the limits like that. If your going 50 and you mess up o nthese country roads, you'll hopefully be ok, you mess up at 70+ and unless your lucky you'll have a date with the grim reaper. I just think slow things down whats the rush, - play another song!

No other car involved, thats good

But to roll like that, he must have been tramming some

He was lucky he was able to get out alive.

I reckon the fact that he was worried about what his parents were going to say, says a lot in my book.

No doubt he will be having a rough time from them and will be facing some serious questions from the police.

But what I can't abide, is the inconsidderate :wankerzo4: spoilt your shooting, so he deserves everything he gets :11:
