Its one of the reasons i chose the D700 . . . . it really does perform with the high ISO's, i don't do any studio stuff so shoot everything outside, it's great when i'm out with the hunt, mid winter, low light, never lets me down.

So i went back tonight . . . . . arrived at 7.30ish and sprinkled my tripe offerings around the earth . . . sun was bright and throwing that lovely mellow golden cast over everything . . perfect! So i waited . . .. and waited . . . . . .. and waited and the sun started to go, my neck got stiff, my fingers were cramping, and still no bloody cubs! :wallbash:

About 8.30 i heard them playing in the ditch and making a racket . . . . then this little lad popped out the bushes about 12ft from me, i froze, and he had a good look, sniffed the air, looked some more and then slunk back into the cover. I managed to get a shot just, but again was shooting on a high ISO and its not as sharp as i would like. I snapped a few more before i lost the light and its soul destroying that 5 little dudes were flitting in and out feasting on tripe, no more than 12ft away . . just too dark to get anything of substance.

Still its a joy to lay there and watch them, and although wary of my presence they are by no means put off completely. Once i'd put the camera down they all stuck around and as long as i stayed dead still they happily ate and played right in front of me. Will keep trying till i get "that" shot.

The dogs caught 2 rabbits this morning so i will save the guts and see if it makes a difference . . . . the main problem is the light, i haven't seen them out at all mid day, but i presume as they get older their confidence will grow as well. Where the earth is is ideal as its private land, no one except me goes there and i'm hoping if i lay food in the day time they will start to venture a little further out. No sign of mum yet, maybe the guts will get her out too. I'm not un happy with the shots i have, but its one of those things that becomes a challenge, i want shots of them playing and interacting with each other as well as some of the whole litter. ideally some captured in better light with a lower ISO would also be nice. Its handy that they are so close and i will just keep trying till i succeed. I can see them from my bedroom window, had the lamp out last night watching them looning around, counted 6 in total all out at least 20/30 yrd from the earth. :clapper:

Cracking pics :clapper:

I’m watching one litter at the moment but I haven’t got a camera capable of taking any decent snaps.

Your lucky to have them on your door step I’ve got to walk a few miles and scramble over an old quarry to see mine.

Keep us posted on how they turn out.

So i went back this afternoon. . . . armed with rabbit guts. Put them out about 12ft from the earth and then lay in wait. . . . . literally a couple of minutes and the first cub appeared. Now i'm presuming due to the time of day the cub was naturally much more cautious. He was very, very, tentative, more so than they ever have been. I waiting for him to get a bit further out and shot this image . . Gone in a flash!

And thats how in continued for the next hour, out and in snatching at the food and full speed back to the earth, very annoying as i had perfect light and the image is at a level of sharpness i'm more than happy with. But i mustn't complain as i am pleased with the result below.

I'll keep at them though . .. "cub watch" is taking over my life! :clapper:
