NOOK/ANNA 96
Out with a proven dog doing the business. Let them watch and if they show any sign's of wanting to join in then let them. But i always make sure the that the 1st dogs got good grip. Think personally a pup getting its face chewed off 1st ever fox will cause you to have more failures trying to start them. stormyboy 1,352
Tease them and let them rag a few carcases till they get wound up by the sight of them. Then get them on a few july/august cubs on the lamp. They'll soon be doing them well if you've built up the antipathy in them. You dont need an experienced dog to teach them-This can have a negative effect if the teacher dog is aggressive towards the youngster. Edited May 14, 2010 by stormyboy Quote Link to post

wirral countryman 2,110
I've never really had a problem entering a young dog as my pups come out with my other terrier and lurcher from when they've had their second jab,I work the cover on a daily basis and find when their big enough they self enter,I have a nine month old lurcher now that has caught a good number of rabbits on short runs and from good positioning whilst bushing, she has had hold of bigger quarry and finds it easy, self entering is the best way I find,I have done this all my life and providing your sensible and get there quick to despatch when needed,I don't see a problem, atb, wirralman Quote Link to post

Guest DogFaceKillah
all depends on the dog the breeding an the dog man, i have a theory of entering a dog single, that dog will never rely on another for confidence, just a thoery! but id say let it watch ecpreinced dogs at it! different for diff dogs and people Quote Link to post
