liberty 0
Has anyone experienced litter wastage in a 1st x collie/greyhound litter? I have a new pup now 13 weeks old, out of an Irish track bith to working border collie. In 30 years of keeping collie crosses I've never had one look like this. The little bitch is somewhere between a racing corgi and a draught excluder! However she alredy has great character and is very bidable.I know she's still very young and she may yet come good, only time will tell. Quote Link to post

Then again, i'll bet your worried about your pup. For me it's far to early to tell, even the most un-promising pups can turn into swans. You've kept collie crosses for long enough to see the ammount of difference in a litter of first crosses. Don't worry, i'll bet she'll turn out well. Bloody useful too Edited May 14, 2010 by Bosun11 Quote Link to post
Daveo 61
Litter wastage? it sounds like a accidental mating!! Do you know/trust the breeder. accidents do happen. Quote Link to post

To use word 'wastage' when describing pups is wrong IMO, if bred from a sighthound (in this case greyhound), the litter is just divided in their form and speed... One mans meat is another mans.....! Also, do you think a havier type of first cross that proved its worth would be ideal for a second cross back to greyhound or 3/4 bred dog? Advantage being the dog would have been properly tested in the field but still produce heavily collie blooded lurchers. Quote Link to post
Neal 1,866
There's no such thing as litter wastage; just a dog which will excell in other areas compared to the rest of the litter. Edited May 14, 2010 by Neal Quote Link to post
liberty 0
Guys, thanks for the feedback some food for thought there. It's a good point when you say it's all relative. This bitch will be required to lamp and ferret only, if she's capable of doing that with the usual collie nouse I'll be a happy bunny. I'll also be very happy when the lenght of those stumpy legs are in proportiom with her long bak. If she comes good I will post some before and after photo's incase anyone else is going through the same anguish. Quote Link to post
