i used to run my dogs with a friend who had a 5/8 3/8 bull greyhound which had chewed its tail so bad it was docked he was an amazing worker both day and lamp on all quarries before and after docking, i was told that his balance should have been affected but it clearly was not, he was always a 3 out of 3 dog.

had a bitch that was a decent animal, came back from a course with her tail snapped in half.had to dock it right back.4 weeks later,it was the same dog doing the same things.made no difference to her at all

didnt the bullx pie have a damaged tail?

Thats correct Chimp, Pie lost his tail after an 'altication' with a car door. Lost it quite early too and though a dog is better with a full 'rudder', it never stopped him from earning his reputation!

TimmyK off here has a 3/4 bull x, thats had most of its tail amputated and that dog is not showing any sign of it's loss in the field ;) Though being a pied dog he now looks like a Pointer with aids!

Mines had about a third took off and I don't think its made a difference, the lay off made him a bit mad keen though :icon_eek:

If I ever had to get it done again i'd get more taken off because it was a nightmare with him being able to reach the wound licking it and eating dressings and stitches and preventing it from healing.

My Uncle Bill had a dog Paddy , he was out of his old collie x, Nell this was just after WW2,Paddy was born with a stump of a tail ,he caught all game that was around in Kent, hares,[given no law],just hunted up, ducks taken off dykes, several pheasants and partridges, and countless bunnies, maybe he would have done better with a full tail ,but he kept the pot filled in tough times.
