COSH 14
Aaron Proffitt, judging from your replys your obviously very happy with your dogs injuring each other before they get to do there job. Hunting dogs do not need to be aggresive towards other dogs to be good at there job FACT. I agree with this ,dogs that are regularly aggressive to others are an unmitigated nuisance, and aggression towards other dogs has no bearing on their working ability. Two of the hardest most courageous dogs ,I have known ,[both from the Cumbria area ],owned by a very well know lurcherman], were completely chilled out and placid around other dogs, one of them , " Cougar", was a monster on Deer and Fox, had teeth like an alligator ,yet was a sweetheart in canine company,[unless attacked]. Its as though they know what they are capable of and dont need to keep posturing, and showing their teeth. One of the worst dogs for causing aggro was a friends ,a so called t*****r,it growled at all dogs in the car, bitches too, often sparking off aggro ,yet would not go in on a fox, a total wanker. A good friend of mine fights bareknuckle for considerable amounts, yet he is reserved and quiet in company, nothing to prove.Ive seen quite a few aggressive dogs that lacked balls in a pinch. An occasional spat, or minor kennel fight is perhaps to be expected ,but consistent ,unwarranted, and unprovoked aggression should be solved with a cartridge, imo. I firmly agree with your comments here, very well put, and more than often true. But im also confident in saying that these very dogs, the steady reserved types, if pushed for some reason by a kennel mate can be the victors of a kennel fight, slaying the instigator. I was getting the feeling the topic was starting to sway towards calling the dog killer in a kennel fight, a bad dog, and I know through experiences in my life that it is not always true. also sorry for any confusion joe ox. inan 841
had dogs 13 years and have always kenneled them together and have never had a fight . maybe i have just been lucky I have three dogs ,all male, I don't keep bitches, two are kenneled together, and they are all loose together ,when I am there. I have had a couple of serious dog fights over the last 40 years and have scars on my arms to show for it , but ,I think we are more focusing this topic ,on the dog that is constantly aggressive without provocation, such an animal is a perpetual liability. I take a lurcher on shoots beating, and am allowed to run the ground game, a dog that wants to scrap with the guns', springers and labs would soon see me booted off the shoot, can you imagine the carnage such an animal could provoke in the back of an overcrowded game carrier going between drives? ps Long may your luck hold Edited May 19, 2010 by inan Quote Link to post
