Attack Fell Terrier 864
Take it out on a couple with an experienced dog,tie it up and let it take in whats going on, after that its up to the pup,and dont be impatient,i personally wouldnt expect my dogs to start doing anything until they're 17-18 months, some dogs want it earlier but ive found it better to hold them back. I agree with that! Some dogs start late, but like DannyMc suggested I wouldn't start them any sooner than what he said. Some will start later than others so it depends on how patient you wanna be with them. Try them in the easier places first, build the dogs confidence up. Quote Link to post

Well said Fella but i've found that by 15 months you will know what you have especially with black dogs. Some breeds will take longer to start, use to keep lakelands away back ten years ago and it was nearly 20-24months before some of them started as they can be slow but the black dog usually wants it from the off, have to be careful with this though as you will have to make sure you don't spoil him/her too young.
