Bountyman_90 0
As title says-what age would you introduce an ESS to the gun at? He has been doing the right amount of training for his age-but just want to know about what age to let him hear the gun etc. Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
starter pistol with short .22 caps from a distance at about 6-8 months. Treat the dog everytime the gun goes off, go careful decreasing the distance as a lot of people have ruined good young puppies making them gun shy! timberdog 1
8 to nine months.. and get someone to help ..let them comfort the dog at a good distance and also to watch his reaction whilst you fire the gun..this way it helps for feedback on his reactions.. if he shys from the shot dont let anymore rip as it will ruin him etc to the gun... usually you will get little bother reaction wise after letting shot off go over to him and make a big fuss of him.. your will be fine Quote Link to post
teckel 3
when i breed a litter of pups i put a radio on in the kennel 24 hours a day playing all diffrent types of noise s a/ it helps break them in to being used to the gun and b/it also helps when people by the pups and take them home if they start to whine at night when they are all alone put the music on and they remember this in the kennel and makes them settel down and no more whining Quote Link to post
v-max 2
Hello as you have been training the dog i would say that when you & a friend intrduce him you are his trainer & master you should stay with the dog & reasure him & let the friend shoot.Say 150-200yrd for a start 1 shot then progress every 50yrd's with a couple of shot's each time till around 20yrd's from your dog & you give the signal to carry on & shoot when you & dog ready each 50yrd's he come's closer.
