poacher3161 1,766
I always believed, after reading books by Plummer and others ,that the first cross was best rather than lurcher x lurcher, because hybrid vigor in the first cross was lost in the lurcher x lurcher, also in the lurcher x lurcher one never new exactly what was in the mix,so if there was springer spaniel or terrier in there you could end up with a lurcher that was more spaniel or terrier than greyhound and not fast enough to be of use as a working lurcher.I have to say this SOUNDS reasonable enough to me but I personaly have found that it's just not true. The best lurchers that I have had (which is not that many) and which I have seen working (which is quite a few)have all been lurcher x lurcher, good worker x good worker. It may be that it is only the dogs which I have seen work but after seeing quite a few of both working,I would never again keep a first cross.Lurcher x lurcher for me every time.Just my opinion. Plummer wrote that baised on a breeding venture that he was part of and it would have not been good for sales to be entirely honest about the virtues of wat he degradeingly called imho the bitza lurcher.atb dell Quote Link to post
