My 7 month old pup is retrieving the dummy spot on, but when I wrap a rabbit skin around it he just wants to rag it about and chew it, anything but fetch it back to me. Is there a way I could stop this?

Have you just started applying the pelt?........... if so I would recon at 7 months, he finds it novel and is simply playing.

 

You need to take it from him, and repremand when he starts to chew, before he gets into the habbit of if...... Try putting it in a pair of tights....I used to do this with spaniels to feather....just so they slowly get used to it

Dont think wearing a pair of tight would make much difference, might scare the dog in fact, but each to his own,,

I wouldn't of expected anything else mate. The rabbit skin is new to him and he's excited by it, that's the reason he's acting the way he is. I would expect him to settle down the more he gets used to it.

my dog never really used to be into retrieving training but after a short period of time on the lamp he started retrieving the rabbits to me . just keep trying mate he should come round in the end.
