tinytiger 828
track grey has better turn but coursing is bigger, faster, stronger coursing arent faster..track are faster but dont have as much stamina as the coursing..coursing bred hounds are bigger, stronger and dont injure as easily as the track hound....depends what you want mate... do you want lightly built dogs with more speed maybe a bit less stamina that may tend to injure easily? or do you want a slightly bigger dog with a bit more stamina, may not injure as easily but maybe not as fast? personaly i would go for the coursing hound as they may be alittle stronger..you wouldnt even notice the difference in speed when crossed.. atb mate Coursing are faster on the straight than a track dog in any of my experiences the track dog are faster but dont suit the coursing because they dont have enough stamina to run a few races in a day..why aint coursing dogs used on tracks they if the are faster???.... wont chase the artificial hare,or will do it 2 0r 3 times and go sour.long charlie a newry hill son had the track record for 500yds in tralee a few years back.then again a brett lee son won knockgraffon coursing last season.Ive had coursing saplings that were as wild and unbiddable as young wolves-if temperment is an issue.I find the coursing dogs cop on a lot faster hunting wise Quote Link to post
cassshantia 16
when you mention coursing dogs with more stamina why s that when you get good marathon dogs /bitches doing 800 ,900plus yrds when running tracks and some of them even run on better towards the end of the race just a thought Quote Link to post
taz2010 1,297
I had a track grey pup gven years ago and turned out a cracking courseing grey so does not matter which just make sure its well bred some shit about mate Quote Link to post
luke 2
track or coursing both the same dog just conditioned differently. i would look for a bitch that has come through its coursing or racing carear with out many injuries just my opinion Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
the main reason coursing dogs get less injuries is nothing to do with build or breeding its because coursing greyhounds run in basically a straight line wheras track greyhounds are running permantly round a oval track against 5 other greyhounds causing strains and bumps much more than on a cousing runup. Romany 1,065
I think its already been said, dont make any difference, but go for a sound long distance greyhound, not one thats had constant bother with muscel or feet.. Quote Link to post

I only want the cross for field work so i think it would be wise to get a good samll coursing bitch, hopefully one that has ended its career with few injuries. all the best mate Quote Link to post
northern star 6
Thanks to everyone who has left an opinion on this topic, all your advice has been really valuable is is helping me decide, perhaps i should have mentioned that they will be used for mainly field work, and only th odd race at a country fair etc for a bit of fun. Thanks again for all your contributions and any advice on blood lines / breeding i should look out for (or avoid) will be gratfulle received! Thanks one and all - happy hunting Quote Link to post
