mj robson 8
Shot a couple of unusual heads this morning. Big 8 point freak head. Not so big 7 point freak head, nice all the same! Saw lots (15+) of nice 6 point bucks with great potential this morning. We also shot a buck with a broken back leg, looks like a fence double wire. Shot 13 bucks so far over 15 outings, hope it continues! Cheers, Mark. Quote Link to post

flytie 1
Interesting heads It would be interesting to know what they weigh? I know they will not make medal heads because of them being ungainly, but they are quite a size!! The more I stalk the more I look very carefully at fencing. Is there advice about fencing concerning deer in the public domain? The only reason i ask is that I have shot two deer this year because of them being hung up on double stranded barbed wire, and did three last year. Bearing in mind I do not shoot over a huge acreage this is quite a high proportion of the deer I shoot. ft Quote Link to post
Lurchandhistribe 0
intresting point on the wire. we have miles of the stuff on our patch and this year keeper has had to shoot two prickets that have been hung up and the buck i shot a few weeks back had clear scaring from a run in with wire. We have a lot of dog walkers in our area my gut feel is there is a link. back to the heads. is there in stats on what % of normal heads to freaky ones their are and do certain areas of the country tend to have a greater % of freaky ones. Intrested as I dont think I have ever seen a freaky one and we have a good population of Roe in and around where I walk the hounds. Id say I see 5 roe or so a day regardless of the walk I do which tends to be in 1 of 6 or 7 quite seperate places. Quote Link to post
mj robson 8
We saw another small freak 5 point buck this morning, feeding 40 meters away from us. We left it for another year. I've just spent the last 3 hours cleaning the heads from yesterday. The middle buck should just go bronze and the far right a silver, the freak between them is heavy enough for bronze but it wouldn't make the points. A good days stalking for 2 clients! We were out this morning and saw 2 big medal class bucks but were unable to get a shot in the cover. Cheers, Mark. Quote Link to post
glogin 87
Great bucks Mark as every year. Greg Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Some great heads there - Freak is Unique Hats off to you doing all those heads to that spec in that time Quote Link to post
john robbo 30
Well done Mark nice job. Your bucks like mine lack much span. But nice all the same. The wife will get a nice fortnight abroad this year. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Professional as ever mate Quote Link to post
mj robson 8
I've just had news from Denmark that these heads have been provisionally scored and got a gold and 2 bronze. The gold (on the right) scoring 133.25 cic with 575 grams. It has been force dried and shouldn't loose any more weight. I would never have thought it would make a gold in this country. The one we shot in April is much bigger than this. Cheers, Mark. Quote Link to post
john robbo 30
I have lost much faith in the measuring system Mark. Think there should be less input by the scorers, just have legnth span volume etc NO skull weight after all we dont weigh does skulls maybe we should and have them score too LOL. Quote Link to post
mj robson 8
John, There is certainly a big difference in the measuring system in the UK and Denmark. About 6 years ago we had a nice buck that scored 126.8cic (602 grams) over here and was remeasured in Denmark where it made a gold medal. The cic should be the same no matter which country you are in. Cheers, Mark. Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Maybe its time for an overhaul of the CIC and a standardistaion of the parameters. I personally would like to see less emphesis on skull volume. The antlers are the trophy, IMO. Quote Link to post
