shepp 2,285
Scotland and Wales both have there own parliaments but England has many of it's policies voted through by Scottish and Welsh MP's. We always hear about how we take Scotlands oil if we even dare to question the subsidies we provide Scotland to help fund it's over grown public sector (over 50% of it's working population). As an independant country we could vote in our own government with votes from English people. I think it's time to go our own way. What do you think ?

shepp 2,285
And become even weaker, more pathetic and more liberal? We would'nt be more liberal in fact we would be far more Conservative without the Scottish and Welsh Labour vote.

We would'nt be more liberal in fact we would be far more Conservative without the Scottish and Welsh Labour vote. ad thats a good thing? It is a good thing, because the majority of English people are Conservatives so we would get the party that the majority of us are voting for. An independant Scotland would also have the benefit of getting the government that the majority of them are voting for.
sitting bull 5
im pretty sure scooootland could stand on its own two feet, im pretty sure england could stand on its own two feet but wales wouldnt last a month
Rake aboot 4,936
I dont think 50% work in public sector, but that aside Its not very BRITISH of you ,is it??? Not all Scots want to be ruled by arseholes like Salmond and his band of thieves.
Malt 379
but wales wouldnt last a month What makes you say that? 300 years worth of coal in the ground, oil & gas in Carmarthen bay, location of the biggest LNG hub in Europe - supplies 25% of UK gas, supply of fresh water to the whole of the Liverpool/Midlands area, enough farmland to feed the whole Welsh population here in Pembrokeshire, booming tourist industry..... I dont think 50% work in public sector, but that aside Its not very BRITISH of you ,is it??? Not all Scots want to be ruled by arseholes like Salmond and his band of thieves. Same here, we will always be strongest as 4 united nations as opposed to 4 small divided ones IMO. Edited May 11, 2010 by maltenby
Caravan Monster 323
As an independant country we could vote in our own government with votes from English people. I think it's time to go our own way. What do you think ? Never thought about English independence until recently, but it increasingly makes sense Map of election results The overall result is so skewed by the Scottish vote, which seems very detached from many English issues. An English Parliament would give real proportional representation to the English: generally labour representing the old industrial areas and conservative for the rural / affluent areas, with the majority leading the government. How do the Scottish and Welsh feel about independence ? Edited May 11, 2010 by Caravan Monster

How do the Scottish and Welsh feel about independence ? hate the idea of it always been a true brit and believed in the union.came through 2 world wars and had the biggest empire the world seen as a united island.still feel the same, however having said that i think its more my cousins south of the border that want it, more than scotland wales or northern ireland. and with some of their anti scottish/wales bigoted views i dont feel they share the same pride i have in britain.maybe it is time for a break it would sadden me immensely but if the english hate us so much why keep it going?it can only led to ill feeling. Hi i think its time Scotland and the Welsh should have independence. This so called Great Britain is falling apart at the seems.Scotland will never vote conservative .I for one and many like me still see the 1707 act of union as a betrayal to Scotland by the upper class at the time.atb. WILF 47,723
I have some brilliant Scottish and Welsh mates, real good friends and I think our history together as nations counts for something BUT I do now thinks it time (after this election result and the resulting f*****g mess) to just say come back into the fold to Scotland and Wales, give up your parliments/assemblies and unite with us properly once more and if they say no, we cut them loose and let them stand on their own feet.....no money, no funding, nothing. No reason we cant buy what we need from them, but thats it! I am sure they will do well alone as countrys and they can go to the EU for money (if they want to swap one perceived dictator for another ) In other words my celtic friends, shit or get off the pot! WILF 47,723
Oh I agree catcher, its your oil and gas and we would be very happy to buy it from you as would lots of other countrys. We will keep the square mile and all the money that the labour goverment pumps into Wales and Scotland to pay for votes. About time we got free everything instead of giving it away. Scotland would be a wealthy wee country, and I am sure the world demand for coal and sheep would keep Wales ticking along. At one time I didnt support splitting up the nation but I think now it really is time, especially after last week. As a nation we are 1 TRILLION POUNDS in debt and instaed of taking the sensible view and voting for a party who will sort it out certain sections of the population voted on the fact that they are doing very nicely thank you (god knows where they think the moneys coming from???) and on events that happened 400 years ago!!!! It almost beggars belief. Anyway, this could go on and on but I agree, have your independance and we have ours, its time.
