Phantom 631
Hi guys and gals. Before I do my write up and bung up the pix, heres a synopsis of my last session in the Grave Yard for people who don't like my essays Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Zero is good and all pellets inside an area no bigger than 5p Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang. Twenty shots in a 4 inch group, Guess I won't be hunting with these pellets! Bang, Bang, Bang, three misses, run around the cemy then the next three shots = 9 dead Home time End of Story ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Right now down to it Arrived at the paddock to see dozens of bunnies all over the place mainly kits, but a good few 3/4 grown and adults. Walked over to my zero point set up my card 30 yards from the muzzle and got comfortable caressing my baby with love and preparing myself for some tight group paper punching with two different makes of pellets. The 1st were of course the FX 16grainers five of which punched through the bull and made a one hole group the size of a 5 p coin I'm verry happy with that Next job was to give these Milbro Caledonion another try as I still have a few tins of these and I'm running out of decent pellets. Fired the next twenty of these supposedly and I quote from the manufactures own website "Well above average performance for a well below average price range. Very cost effective" Well if 20 pellets fired from a very accurate recoil free rifle using a bipod create a 4 inch group is called 'well above average performance' I would hate to see what below average pellets would be capable of grouping These pellets are made in England and if thats the standard of English pellets, thank F K I like the ones made abroad I didn't think that two tins of pellets could produce such a ridiculous difference in grouping. So the lid went back on those and they will be used for plinking in the beast or maybe I'll just melt em down for catty ammo if I can't get a LEM mould. I put another one of the FX back in the loading port and drove it home with the bolt I aimed at the furthest pellet hole on the paper and let off the shot. The hole grew by another couple of mm and I was ready for some bunny bashing. Climbing through the fence, I noticed a kit next to the large headstone in front of the conker tree. I slipped another pellet into my baby and creeped round the tree slowly. By the time I got round, the kit was now way over to my right near a bush, umm..... about 10 yards, Hold under applied and off goes the shot, pellet whizzes past the kit and off he goes at speed he stops about 15 yards further down the path and I again reload and take aim, calm myself and off goes the shot. Well he's off again before the pellet leaves the muzzle and he's bounding over to the central warren where he stops and looks around nervously. A quick reload and I under-estimate the range and the pellet lands at his feet Off he goes again heading back my way!! He stops about 15 yards from me and I'm reloading as well as getting rather embarressed by my 3 clean misses and I am amazed by this little uns stupidity as any other would have surely gone to ground by now? As I'm taking aim, I notice the kit turn around and face away from me. So I place the thick top post at the kits head, steady my breathing and just as I let the shot off up goes bunny! this time however he went down as the pellet hit home through his head and left through the front of his neck. Instant lights out. This kid must have been related to speedy he was a fast little fecker and he has a white patch on the top of his head. The Sexy 200 and FX Pellets, no vermin too small to tackle Heres his close up! Pellets included for scale. So after that, seeing as the wind was gone and the sun was shining, I got myself settled and awaited my next victim. A few woodies and doves kept landing in a tree near to me, but as the Cemetery is a Rabbit only Clearence permission; emphasis on the Clearance, which is why the kits get the same treatment as the adults for those who want to call me a :wankerzo4: for taking next years sport! It was a over an hour before the next bunnie showed itself, another kit at about 25 yards from me in a depression. This one seemed smaller than the 1st and presented me with a nice clear side on head shot. Taking full advantage I gently squeezed the trigger and the bunny did a backwards 360 in the air. Upon retrieval I pressed the skull with my finger. The shot had shattered the skull and liquified the soft brain of the kit and it oozed out of the exit wound. S200 and two down Later on just before the light vanished and as I was getting ready to come home I spied another bunny fully grown about 40 yards away at the far corner next to the street. All the regular dog walkers had been and gone, the packaging place had shut and I decided although I don't normally shoot in that direction I could see there was nobody about should I miss; therefore the only thing to get hit should I miss my mark would be a brick wall. Carefully I settled myself into a new direction and put my eye to the scope. The street light shed enough illumination onto the bunny for me to see how much hold over I was to give it. I waited to see if it would move to a more favourable position, but after 5 minutes it was almost dark and I just had a silhouette to aim for. I let the shot go and made my bag count 3. Upon retrieval, this one felt heavy. Turns out it was a Doe and had 6 kits inside, so again as it is a clearance site, I don't feel too bad about it. Well I do, but sadly, its got to be done so in total my count was 9 for the evening Phantom 1 Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
Thanks for the kind words guy's. Shay and Bill: I shall look forward to reading of your exploits for this evening, I'm thinking I may get out after 20:00 for an hour or so, but on the other hand, I've still not had more than a couple of hours kip since friday morning and I'm really feeling it now so maybe I'll just swallow a sleeper (remembered to order them this morning) and have an early night and catch up on some :lazy: before I go  FalconGit: Maybe one day I will As for the meat, yeah you don't get much on em at that size, but what they lack in size it makes up in (IMHO) superior tasting and tender meat. I did the last two kits in a nice home made spicy Kung Po with stirfried carrot, mushroom and onions, on a base of thin, boiled egg noodles. Tasted Wonderful, but could have done with another kit in the mix. Phantom Edited May 10, 2010 by Phantom Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
hi phantom great write up and shooting always a good pic happy hunting farmer Thanks Kev, Pix not bad for a cameraphone, but its only got a CMOS sensor, so they get a bit noisy (speckled looking) when the light gets low, like in the long group shot. pest hunter 151 15
Yet another brill outing for you and another brill write up for us. Well done buddy Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Cheers Guy's Stealthy: Yeah I thought it must have just been the previous tin of them, so I opened a new tin of the Milbro ~Cal's. Dont be daft! I didn't buy them I was given 2500 of them when I collected my SMK19. Funny thing about that though, I used em for plinking with paper and knockdowns in the garden and they were reasonable in that rifle but they were nowhare near as good as the AAF's in the 19, I could get 2 or 3 AA's up each others skirts. The Milbro Cal's in my opinion are just ...... well I've still got about 1500 of them left after 2 years.... Must admit, I really was expecting them to perform better in the 200 and was gobsmacked when I got 20 pellets on a 4 inch spread. Aaron: The FX is about a centimeter less than the AAFD's Yes the kit was tiny and yes after they are gutted and skinned they do make fantastically tender and tasty meat Way better than the big old bucks I only shoot them in the cemetery, the ones in the paddock I mostly just watch them play Thanks again guy's. Phantom 631
hi tony great read that buddy did you have your bottle or pump with ya. after all that banging you would of had to re-fill well done buddy nice to see ya getting out i think you and i should have a write off!! regards davy Thanks Davy, I was hoping for an hour or two tonight, but I had to go pick up my script after 19:00, then waited in the Pharmacy for what seemed like forever. I've just been watching my AAS200 Servicing DVD I'm thinking of giving it a good ole strip and a bit of grease on the sears and cocking bolt (starting to get a bit stiff/gritty). I also want to get some oil on the paint work. But now its spot on again at 30 yrds I don't want to do it until my new scope arrives later this week (hopefully) Tell you what though as soon as the DWP cough up the brass they owe me, I'm having a 10shot conversion and a laser range finder Then I'm going to have a play with H&N FTT's as the previous owner of my baby swears by them as being the best in her. If I can get sub 10mm groups with them, I'll buy at least 10k of them. Otherwise I think I'll go back to AAF's As for a write off? Dont we do that every time we put a post of out exploits  Been thinking of compiling all my previous into a sort of diary type thing. All the best Buddy Phantom Quote Link to post
