Last Night

Recommended Posts

Finally got out last night on my closest permission, havent had a wander here for ages and the farmer gave me a kick up the arse Thursday and told me he had masses of rabbits on one bank raping the field.

So off I set early evening, as I walked towards a good spot rabbits were bolting all over the place.

Settled down and checked zero everything was good......Then the wind picked up big time  directly left to right and really hauling through :wallbash:

Anyway after about 10 minutes or so the first rabbit jumped out at about 25m....It was a jet black fella :clapper: Take aim, do my breathing and he turns his back and hops off another 10m and stays arse end towards me

Well by this stage Ive decided I really want this rabbit so I ignore the other 4 or 5 that come out over the next 10 minutes, the little sod keeps hopping off further away into the field and doesnt present a sure shot due to the gusting wind :icon_eek:

Anyway in the end I got hacked off waiting and nailed one at 25m and headed for home :boogie:

Off again Monday that black rabbits got my name on it

ive had a few black ones whilst ferreting a certain farm.is this natural or the offspring of a feral?

Before they put up a housing estate next to the field near where I shoot, there used to be a little farm and he used to bread bunnies. When he sold his land and vanished all of a sudden there were multi colour bunnies in those fields, Now I have them on my permisisons, including a big red/ginger bunnie.

Legend has it game keepers used to deliberately release a few domestic black rabbits into fields for them to breed as it helped them spot when the numbers of rabbits were dropping due to poachers. - At least thats what i read in one of my old poaching books!

Ive never seen one, but my missus swears blind she has seen one. Although I have my doubts as when we were driving along the other day she said "quick, look its a black rabbit". I piled my brakes on and reversed to have a look and it turned out the "black rabbit" was a crow in the field - so now when she claims to see a black rabbit i say "oh, was it flapping its wings and pecking the grass with its beak?".....
