trappa 518
Ive just been out and set my first snares. Im a complete amateur but im going to give it a go. Ive only set 15 snares, but i reckon i will try to get it right first before im setting hundreds. i did a couple the "schoolkid" way ie; tieing loose snare to a fence at the run but the others ive set with tealers on the runs. Im going to go back tonight and see what ive done, though i think it will be the night when they come out to play properly. What would the experts reckon would be a half decent ratio of rabbits to snares? Im going to take the camera tomrrow to take some snaps and will hopefully keep this thread up to date in case anyone apart from me is interested in my progress from complete amateur to world champion! Any tips are always welcome trappa Quote Link to post

trappa 518
Right, i went back last night and caught nothing, so set some more for overnight and..................nothing again! Im not sure if im doing anything wrong or if its just bad luck as there are plenty rabbits here. Im setting the snares about 4 fingers high and making sure the tealers are not on the runs themselves. Im also worried about catching cats, im guessing it can happen and there are a couple of cats in the vicinity. Any help from you experts? I did have a look out with my rifle and shot roughly 20 which was ok but i would have swapped all 20 for one in the snare. Quote Link to post

gnipper 6,543
I wouldn't worry about catching cats when your setting them 4 fingers high mate unless there's some 6 week old kittens knocking around. Read the articles by Glen or see if you can get a copy of Woodga's DVD, the DVD was really useful to me and easier to watch someone do it than read how its done. Quote Link to post
