if you allowed anyone to own a gun there'd be many deaths and then within a year the government would make it illegal again.

the whole country would need to change first, it wouldnt work without capital punishment as a deterrent imo

Many of our big cities have just as strict or stricter gun law's than the UK... Here is a prime example, a little over a year ago Washington DC ( Capitol of USA) repealed their firearms ban and the crime rate's fell - including gun crimes....Home invasions and carjacking crimes were rampant in DC because the criminal had free run on the unarmed population.... Check out the facts and statistics for your self - google it.... You have the right to change you opinion - I won't hold it against you either way, I know the facts and have researched this topic extensively.....

Anywhere in the USA where we have introduced concealed carry programs the crime rates have reduced - Some of these states do not have capitol punishment.....I do agree that capitol punishment is a great deterrant....!

Washinton DC had some of the most strict gun laws on the books and they did nothing to reduce crime... These law's went against the constitution's 2nd amendment and disarmed law abiding citizens.... The law's did not work so we changed them and went back to what worked in the past when we ran the Redcoats out of America---Thanks for teaching our for-fathers that one gret lesson....

Thankfully over here i carry a gun for sport, not to protect myself or to attack anyone, just good old fashioned sport !   Maybe great britian is actually GREAT after all ?!

Banning religion in schools seems a good idea, why teach bullshit when the time could be well spent, apart from that the libs dont have much going for them really.

The "Right to Bear Arms," was enshrined in the American Constitution because the founders of the constitution, most notably Jefferson, Washington and Patrick Henry, were implacably opposed to the idea of a standing army. They considered that it was far better to have a self trained militia available for national defence. Since the same people were pushing West and needed guns for self-defence against the Native Americans who objected to the genocidal behaviour of the Europeans, the whole thing worked out rather well, at least for the invaders.

The fact still remains, SGS, that the founding methods of Am-u-rr-ca were genocide and slavery, both backed up by the HOLY GOD-GIVEN RIGHT OF THE WHITE MAN TO BEAR ARMS.

The Gun is Civilization

by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

By Maj. L. C audill USM C (Ret)

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced.

The Bill of rights 1689 gave all British subjects the right to have arms for defense but the truth is that we have allowed the government to illegally remove this right from us yet again we have had our rights eroded by the self serving greed driven politicians they impose their political will on us and we get no say in the mater I mean how long have we had a prime minister who was unelected how is that democracy and now the farce continues with a con/libdem coalition our vote counts for nothing we have been enslaved by the government all because we are apathetic to the erosion of our rights we are at fault it is far to easy to sit with a pint in the pub moaning than doing.

All of you who didn't vote, march for hunting, demonstrate for the right to keep your pistols/slr's, didn't protest at the price of fuel and are happy to be ruled and not governed HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME

im not anti-gun ownership but i cant see it happening in the uk,imagine if these chavs going around stabbing each other could easily get hold of guns with no risk of execution, it would be chaos imo

Hi mate,I think you will fnd that there are guns freely available illegaly ofcourse which are changing hands all the time and that are regularly used in crime in this country.

im sure they can be got hold of easily enough but as of now even getting caught posessing one you're in a lot of trouble, which is a deterrent whereas if you could walk around with them concealed and had the right to use them to defend yourself, there would be for a while at least a lot of shootings and some would be innocent people, and the ones who done it would get away with it lightly because thats the way this country is.like i said the country needs to change first imo

What is a country made of?

The folks that are living in it?

Who are the innocents if we all have a death waiting? ( Innocents are God like and immortal - God has no grandchildren!)

Who is going to change your country? The innocents?

Are there any criminals "getting away with it lightly now"?

Hey Blan go back to my original post and read about the 56 million "innocent people"who were rounded up and exterminated while they were waiting for "their countries to change"..... Judging from what you keep repeating you have done very little of your own research on this and are just going along with what you have heard and grew up around... "The contagion of aberration" were gun's are like "evil snakes" and let's all be ninnies about them - "Its the height of fashion to be a ninny"......... " Glib limp wristed approaches to the subject of freedom get you nothing more than a used pair of comfortable shoe's.... Who did those shoes belong to before you started wearing them....innocent ninnies?

Who is going to change your country? The innocents?

im tryng to change my country by voting tactically and not in anyway supporting immagration,as are others,so yes

Are there any criminals "getting away with it lightly now"?

Hit a sore spot with my last post SGS! There is a serious point here, apart from our mutual p*ss taking. By the time the Founding Fathers landed, Britain was a pretty well settled country. Bears and wolves were extinct, wild boar on the way out. No violently hostile tribes left. There was comparatively little need for the private citizen to bear arms other than sporting weapons. In America, on the other hand, it was essential that the private citizen be able to bear arms both for hunting and for self-defence. The result has been that our two countries have developed very different cultural approaches to guns.

If I ever make it to Az, it may be the case that I will not, as a foreign national, be allowed a concealed carry. But if I can, I will. On the other hand, if you get across our side of the pond, I'd grass you up for carrying a pistol. We just don't play by the same rules. Yours work for you, ours for us.

Peace, love, and keep your powder dry.

SGS, why do you keep bringing this up? Why keep trying to force this bullsh!t on everyone?

You seem like a nice bloke but what is it that isn't sinking in mate?

America is a much more dangerous place to live than the UK because of it's problem with guns! and the uncivilised gobshites that are running about with them. There's absolutely no need for the people of our country to arm themselves because of the simple fact that the VAST majority of us here do not have to think about what's going to happen if we walk out of our door.

If you feel you need to arm yourself in order to be safe in your country then your country must be one f*cked up place to live.

Seriously.
