Dear hunters and hunting enthusiasts,

Let me introduce myself to you. My name is Louis van Hövell, I am eighteen years old and I live in Baarn, a little town in Holland. Hunting has always been my greatest passion, and I am planning to do the hunting-exam next year. Right now, I am happy with my air rifle! Moreover, I will participate in several hunts as a beater this winter. This will start on the 11th of November, when I will go to Germany with a friend to hunt small game. In December, we will hunt hares in Holland, wild boar in Belgium and big game in France. I guess I got very lucky this year!

Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more difficult to hunt in the Netherlands. Reason number one is that our country is absolutely full; there is little space for nature. Secondly, our law and public opinion are anti-hunting. This is a shame, because I am convinced that hunting is a very effective way to preserve nature. I would be interested to know how people's attitude towards hunting is in the UK!

Anyway, I would love to shoot in your country in the future. This year, I have already done some hunting with my air rifle (a BSA Spitfire .177) in Suffolk. My father and mother had hired a cottage in Dallinghoo, a beautiful little place in the countryside. I had never seen so many rabbits and rooks in my life! Being an unexperienced hunter, I only shot four rabbits and a rook. It was very good eating, though!

In order to enlarge my knowledge of hunting, I am always looking for information on the subject. I know this is not the right place to ask, but has one of you got video's or DVD's about hunting with air rifles that you want to get rid of? I am especially looking for video's with James Douglas.

Good hunting!

Cheers,

Louis

PS: Excuse me for my terrible English

Thank you for welcoming me so kindly!

I must say that I was very tempted to eat that rook. It looked so delicious... No, I left the rook for the foxes, that were very numerous in the area. I spotted a beautiful one when I was walking through the fields with my dad after dinner. Apparently, the fox hadn't had its dinner yet, because it was running from one field to another, looking for rabbits!

I did eat the rabbits, and they were very nice. Now that I think about it, I can remember that I actually shot five rabbits; I was so stupid to leave the first one on the ground, thinking that it would still be there when I would go home. When I returned to the place where I had left the bunny fifteen minutes ago, it was gone! I eventually found it somewhere else, with bite marks. Do you know if this was the work of a fox?

Dag Lennard,

Wat leuk dat er een andere Hollander op dit forum is!

Het is een internationale site, niet waar?!

Vriendelijke groet,

Louis

Good evening, dear hunters! Thank you, Ian, Molly, Joeb, Snake Dr., Oldskool and all the others for welcoming me - this is a great forum, I am convinced of that. Its international character makes it even more interesting.

I will be happy to write something about my hunting experiences!

Cheers,

Louis

PS : After a quick search on google, I must say that I'd rather not buy a film with Kirk Douglas in it, Joeb! He must have been better in hunting girls than game, I suppose!
