ROOK SHOOTING

Recommended Posts

whilst out today looking for a murdering vixen but didnt end up finding her we decided to look to see how the rooks were getting on and found that alot had left the nest but wasnt too strong on wing and after a while they had to come back down, we only had 2 boxes of cartridges but still ended up with 40 plus and a squirrel to boot, so itle be a trip back there in the next day or two, has anyone else had any luck at them and are they a week or so early to leave the nest ?

Ive just come back from my ground and the rooks are everywhere like you said they are not very strong on the wing at the moment and the parents where coming in really close to us to feed them, so myself and my mate are going back early saturday morning to give them hell :gunsmilie:

I dont think they are early it was the same time of the year last year when we went guns blazing and i think its something to do with the weather and how much food is about for them.

If i was you mate i would get back there asap and get those barrels hot, :drink: Steve.

ive been back today and had another good doo at them, a good 40 plus again, mainly the young uns that are not too strong on wing as the adults are too clever for us :D with only 3 adults been shot, think weve another day at them to be had before there strong enough to stay up,

I've been asked by one of my relatives who has a farm to pop out & do the business.

They are living very close to the farmhouse. In fact so close if it rains I'll set up camp in the upstairs bedroom & shoot in comfort! :clapper:

Mind you the 12g may be a bit loud! :whistling:

A job for something quieter.

I'll leave an update here tomorrow.

Went shooting very early yesteday morning and there were rooks everywhere there were young all over the place, As soon as we walked down to the rookery the adults just vanished as i think they new what was about to happen,Then all hell broke loose, My mate was the otherside of the rookery and we walked from one end to the other, It was something out of a war film with birds dropping everwhere, We did not shoot any adults as they just disapeared, Out of 200 cartridges fired we 157 rooks, 3 squirrels, and 2 magpies, We had to stop by 10.30 as i had dislocated my shoulder,But my mate and shooting buddy asures me there is plenty more here to come, Cant Wait, :gunsmilie: Very sore Steve. :(

Do any of you eat the branchers? apparently the old nursery rhyme the "four and twenty black birds baked in a pie " were branchers.

Yes mate,, Made a pie with half a dozen of them as there is not much meat on them,Put some veg in with it and to be very honest it went down a treat, Invited nxt door round and they loved it, If there cat carries on shitting in my veg patch that will be the next thing going in a pie and i will give it to them,, :boogie::gunsmilie:

alb, Steve.
