Back out for Charlie again.............

Recommended Posts

Well, the fox I had the other day wasn't the one trying to get into the hen house,so,I was out again today to try to settle it for good.I got there and,I had a premonition(no really)I just knew that there was going to be a fox in the gateway high on the hill, and,as I rounded the corner as if by magic there it was, but, there was no way of getting closer, and,I didn't want to try a squeek(don't know why, just didn't seem right)so,it was up on the sticks at 167yds,the fox was facing me,and downhill,so,I put the crosshairs on the white of it's chest and squeezed off a 100grainer which slammed home, but, she ran on about 25yds and out of sight. For a second I thought I had missed her, but,I was sure that the report I got back was a very solid thwack,so I climbed the hill and looked for any signs, and there was a small lump of meat, which confirmed what I already knew(a hit)and,as I searched wider there was a drop of blood, and then there was a trail of blood as if someone had dragged a bloody mop through the grass, and it ended 25yds away with the vixen in a deep tractor rut......amazing how these animals can keep going after such a devastating hit.I have an immense amount of respect for the fox, they have an incredible ability to survive under extreme conditions...........
