borntoshoot 1
Hi everyone. I have 2 questions to ask you all. one I am slightly worried about the answer. Firstly i went out to feed and water my 2 jills today and the both seem to be moulting (fur falling out when stroked) and my polecat jill is changing colour from light brownish to greyish brown on her back half. Is this something to worry about? Also How can you tell if a ferret it pregnant? Both of mine have been braught out of season with my mate's vasectomised hob who lives with their 3 jills about a month ago and they have never got pregnant yet but since then their nipples have got more erected (not sure if thats the right word) Could they possibly be "in kit"? advise would be much appreciated. Jake. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
I'd put the moulting & colour change down to them loosing their winter coats, nothing to worry about. I've heard that some jills can have a phantom pregnancy after being taken out of season, fingers crossed that's what's happening to yours! Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
There just moulting ... most coloured ferrets are never the same colour after each moult .. also bare in mind the hormonal changes after being brought out of season i know in newly castrated hobs they go into a moult & it usually leaves a fine downy coat with very few guard hairs.. it usually rights its self when they moult the summer coat at the back end of the year Quote Link to post

lorelei0922 2
if they are having a phantom it will last about 6 weeks.. same as preganncy.. they will do all the same stuff.. get fat... moult, pull fur from belly and legs .. make nests.. drag each other around... on the off chance it isn't a phantom.. might wanna seperate at least the pair together if you have other ferrets.. for the time being i saw 6 litters born of vas hobs last year.... just sayin.... lol Quote Link to post
borntoshoot 1
Thanks everyone. wullieh 53
Maybe you mate bred them with an entire hob letting you think he used his vas hob just to wynd you up, but it is more likley to be phantom preg and as said will last about 6 weeks after they were due to give birth, then they prob be ready to come back into season again. as for the colour change this is normal and can be very drastic from moult to moult.
