Lion brand Air rifle restoration

Morning everyone,

 

I have just dug my old air rifle out from under the stairs and decided to give it a little bit of TLC while I look for a new one, It is a lion brand chinese air rifle http://www.reviewcentre.com/review190013.html

 

I have removed the stock and sanded down, just needs varnishing/painting and removed all of the RUST from the barrel and main body of the rifle, I was considering removing the spring and giving it a clean and a good oil. 2 questions:

1, what paint should I use on the barrel and main body of the gun?

 

2, Is it advisable for a beginner to start removing springs ect?

 

Note: when I say beginner I mean to the air rifle side of things as I was in the Army so I know how to strip a weapon and put it back together but as Im sure you'll agree theres a big difference between a plinky chinese air rifle and a fully automatic SA80 5.6!!! haha

mornin pal.

 

there are a few different makes of these rifles lion as you have westlake and another that i cant rember at the min. all of witch the spring will come out without much trouble.

stock off then theres a pin on the rear of the rifle from left to right. hold the gun down firmly and get a mate to knock the pin through,as this comes out the spring will want to fly out under its tension hench the hold it down. and do hold that sucker down. the rest is simpel take note of how it all comes out and replace in that orer, with your exsperiance you will be fine mate there ant much to them,

bit of advice dont try to put an new strong spring in them, they just dont live long if you do, seen this many times they just shake them selves to bits stock and all.

sweet mate, gonna go an give it a try now, not gonna put a new spring in, its only for mucking about in the garden till i get a new one then its getting passed to my 14 year old brother so dont want to be giving him something he can get in bother with. like you say though it would probably fall to pieces with a strong spring in it!

 

Any ideas on what paint to use for the barrel? i was just going to use summat from B&Q for painting metal, would this be suitable?

its a chemical proses that you can do at home, many guns will come from new with "blued" barrals. im not best shure how to exspane it to you to be honest, ny s300 see the reviews and tip section page 3 now i belive.titled s300 revamp, had surface rust on the barral and res when i got her got the most of this off with brasso and my nail. but now the origianl black is faded and tatty so im blueing it soon, will but a very light blue coloer in to the black.(i do mean very light) will only see it when you really really look but it will put a protection layer on the metal and reseal it to stop any further bleading rusting. as where the rust has ben will be the first place to get it again..will google it for you now and see if i can find you a link so i can exsplane it better for you.
