danebrewer10 6 Posted May 3, 2010 Report Share Posted May 3, 2010 they do make quite a difference, some manufacturers chokes are slightly different to others, beretta chokes that come with the silver pigeon are slightly more open than briley chokes of "apparently" the same constriction, (not by much but it's there) get yourself a few rolls of brown wrapping paper from sussex stationers, about 30" wide, cut some 30x30" squares and shoot it. then compare the shot distribution at a set range with different chokes, then you'll have a good idea of how your gun, chokes, and cartridges you intend to use are performing. for me, so long as there are no gaps that a bird might fly through, or a clay, then I'm happy! tillylamp 1,830 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Share Posted May 4, 2010 hi cupcake118, these measurements are approx not exact: and are measured at 40yards. cylinder: 59" improved cylinder: 52" 1/4: 49" spread with 154 pellets at 55%. 1/2: 46" spread with 168 pellets at 60%. 3/4: 43" spread with 182 pellets at 65%. full: 41" spread with 196 pellets at 70%. roughly there are 280 pellets per shot,in a no6 shot cartridge. hope this helps TL.
