Chaz n Dave’s bank holiday

Recommended Posts

Hi every one

Chaz & I took a trip to moonlight valley this morning, the forecast was looking good.

Plenty of sunshine and a slight breeze, but a slight breeze in the town is a different breeze when you’re up moonlight field, it’s not too bad in the valley but the field it’s not fair on the quarry.

Anyways we head up in to the field and to our relief Dennis the farmer had re-levelled the old track so nice and even to go up, no humps and bumps. We spotted a few were out in the fields but they were beyond our boundaries so we left them, cant be seen to be breaking the law not worth it.

So we reach our parking up point, got our kit set up and had a quick zero. I went north with my AAS410K .22 over my shoulder and chaz went south, and we would meet up for a cuppa!

Few hours later.

As im on my way into the valley I can see movement about 200yds away, I had a look through my range finder and there was about 6 kits out and 4 adults out in the direction I was heading. So a nice slow pace upwards I got within a 100yds and there were off but that was the plan send em down take up position and wait for them to surface!

I only ever do this in open fields I find it works well, as long as you stay absolutely still!

I had a hard job finding a sniping point while I was tiptoeing around the warrens, and I found the perfect sniping point. A rabbit hole it was big enough for me to sit in and it had a bout a foot of nettles around it perfect! I could see almost 360 on all the points of exit for the bunny’s I seen earlier. Now you must be thinking I must be mad and you’re probably right! Who on earth sits in a hole surrounded with warrens, well this looked like they haven’t used it for a while so I took full advantage of it.

And this is where I had my first target! A kit came out at 15yds in front of me, I didn’t have the scopecam on so had to watch it for a while till it disappeared in to the ground from a helpful move of my hand to scratch my head, I knew it wouldn’t be long before it was back out and 20minutes later it was up looking around and the scopecam was on and ready, all I had to do was turn the power on and press record view, aim, and squeeze. THWACK!

And that is my first squeeker I have on the scopecam!

And the first in .22

Here is the footage

Now as it was only 15yds I had to remember my hold under, the sun was on the screen and I though it was 1mildot, but it was 2 hold mildot under nether the less it hit the spot but the top of the brain. So I was quick up, before it kicked its way down a hole. On my approach to pick it up I could clearly see where my poi was, so I was curious as to where the pellet had gone. And I done a Quincy Jones AKA phantom autopsy in the field but could not find the pellet apart from some shrapnel of it lol. Here is a pick it’s a bit graphic but nowhere near as graphic as phantoms. :notworthy:

Here are the pics

You can just make out the bit AAF lead

After the field autopsy I got back in to position and not much happened after this, so went for a cuppa and meet up with chaz who came over the brow with a kit too!

After a well deserved couple of cups of tea, we both set of again this time chaz went north and I went east to the top of moonlight valley, and I knew I was in for a trek

“Its hard work getting up that hill at my age” lol

I eventually got to the top well ¾ of the way, and where is a big warren and I got me self set up just on the brow of the eroding landscape, it make’s a good sniping point I can see almost all the hot spots where all the tight grass is where they have been grazing. I was in a prone position so just my sweed looking over the brow, and my AAS410K .22 led on the grass beside me which had my camo scrim scarf wrapped over it to take off any unwanted sheen from the sun. I was here for an hour before two targets presented them self’s with a dance and a kick! Full of teenage spirit.

As I watched them dance and kick for a while, I was just edging myself up the brow a tad. I ranged them at 37yd so 0.5 of a mil dot,

Scopecam on found it in my cam screen took aim, press record, squeeze, THWUCK! Straight over its head. Now its mate just leaped forward by about six foot. So quick adjustments to cross hairs and scopecam and body, record, aim, squeeze THWACK!!

Down the hill it started to roll, so up I was like linford Christie and just got to it be fore it went down a massive rabbit hole about four foot deep, on inspection of poi the wind had took it straight threw its eye.

Here is the footage

I went back to my position and waited for the next target to arrive, but this did not happen because the bipold ponies came right in my field of view so I had no choice but to move on. So thought I would give the tin mine a look in, but nothing happening there so had a walk around and just admired the view. And made my way back to the truck which I met up with chaz who also was on his way back and had another two kits.

So all in all chaz had a good time and I got what I wanted some long awaited footage of AAS410K .22

A very nice day indeed but a tad windy, so some kits went to breed another day. :censored:

Happy hunting

Superb Davy :notworthy: Real quality write up and fantastic video footage.

That head shot on the kit was superb. The skull probably shaved the lead hence the fragments.

Great shooting

Hi Davy,

That's an awsome write up mate. The pics and video's are briliant.

When I can actually shoot through a scope properly I wouldn't mind trying the scope cam. I'll give a shout to learn more.

Cheers Carl
