scent 509
just would like to no if a good dog has to come from the word that is used alot on here this proven parents as there has been top dogs bred and not many make another word used on here the grade views and answers please what use think or does the owner play the biggest part of all I'll put it this way...... If you had a daughter what would you think would be the chances of her kids turning out clever if she married the local bin man compared to a lawyer? Same with everything really..... Nature wants only the best to mate for a reason.... Its only us humans that allow any arsehole to start a family. complete shit talk Edited May 4, 2010 by scent Quote Link to post
Catcher 1 639
being well bred will 'up your chances' of sucess, but you have to put a lot of work in yourself and also a pinch of luck is needed spot on Agree Quote Link to post
INTERNET HUNTER 0
breeding is very important why spend all your time rearing a pup to do a job that its parents could'nt do ?, surely there will always be a lot of doubt in your mind everytime you look at the pup ? also i think how good a dog becomes is a lot of the time down to how easily pleased the owner is Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
I think it takes both nature and nurture, working parent or parents and good rearing and training of the pup, i had a bitch from hancock at 11 weeks old and still have her at 8 1/2 years old, granted she wasn't the best worker i have come across but she was bloody decent for what she came out of (shite). She will still have a good go now!! Even if you had a pup from two of the best working parents in the country there's still a chance of it not working, just have to try your best and hope for the best outcome!! Quote Link to post
riohog 5,816
working dogs .. dont just look what its parent have done go back as many generations ,as possible and look what its grand/parents and gg parants have done ,if the line is consistantly producing good workers .. you got a head start !1the rest is down to you ,it wont learn much in the kennell ..get it out as much as possible ,show it game Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
I'll side with nature in this debate. Quote Link to post

DUCKWING 302
WELL DAN , I AGREE WITH TERRIERS AND DOGS HUNTING STUFF THAT BITES BACK ........ NO AMOUNT OF NURTURE WILL PUT INTO A DOG WHAT ISNT THERE ........ WITH FELLAS HUNTING RABBITS ETC ................ NURTURE AND CORRECT HANDLING IN THE FORMATIVE MONTHES PLAYS A HELL OF A LOT MORE OF A PART ............ THE REALLY GREAT DOGS ARE BORN NOT BRED ........ THEY ARE FREAKS OF NATURE AND ONLY COME OUT ONCE IN A WHILE ........... IVE SEEN THESE BE BRED OUT OF GOOD LITTERS , WHERE ALL THE OFFSPRING TURN OUT WELL , BUT NEVER AS GOOD AS THE FREAK ......... THE BROOD PAIR CAN BE BRED FOR EVER MORE AND STILL NEVER THROW ONE AS GOOD ........ HAVING SAID THAT .................... IVE NEVER HAD A MEDIOCRE BRED DOG IN MY LIFE ........ IT GOES AGAINST THE GRAIN OF EVERYTHING I BELIVE ......... DUCKWING Quote Link to post
matmorgan 49
It's exactly like kids - there has always been the debate about will nature or nurture have the greater deciding factor in how a person or animal will turn out. To be a truly great dog i think it takes both. That doesn't mean that you need famous lines or names, just a dam and sire( and preferably further back) that have proven that they can do their job and that they are free of health defects. These kind of pups seem to have it from a young age, at 8 weeks they are already alert, watching, ready to chase, and exhibit all the makings of a great dog even before you do a thing. However a bad owner or a good owner who makes some big mistakes can completely ruin such a dog and make it worse than useless. A good owner will work to turn that dogs potential into reality. Having said that i think a dog of average breeding in the hands of a good dog man will be far greater than a dog with the best breeding in the world in the hands of a bad dog man. jmo Jai. put loads of work into my kids and none off em av caught me a rabbit yet.although one was bloody good at catching gekos in oz. coursing mad 5
if a dog is off good working parents it just means it has got potential to be a good dog, the rest is up to the owner like training & manors, the running is in the blood but its not all blood based, some phisical features can fcuk your dog up so the answer is, you only have good dogs off good parents if you put the time in aswell. tom.... ROCKO+BECKY 4
well would just like to say thanks for the coments and it was bit better than what i thought it would have been as seen on some other topics started Quote Link to post
whin 463
the way i look at it is the same twenty years ago if they cant catch whats on offer and show no stile, to the job what is the piont in keeping it or even worse breeding of it. a dog has to do something good to breed of it , and something better to talk about him her , and its all about breeding the coreect bloodlines into running dog test them and hopefully breed better or simliar ,its a sceince ,thta not many are into or got the time to do it work them breed them only for dedicated types ,and possibly with the laws be extinct if they havent the game to test them to hell , Quote Link to post
