PolarIce 0
Hello all, I have a weasel that is doing a number on my birds. I need advice on a weasel trap, or some way of catching weasels with terriers. If this topic has already been covered, will someone direct me to it. Thanks. Quote Link to post

Matt 160
As fish suggests, a seesaw is a good way. You could also try a few fenn MkIV's in wooden tunnels strategically placed. Quote Link to post

PolarIce 0
Thanks everyone. I will give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks again. Quote Link to post
klashnekoff 3
Tunnel traps placed sensibally along any hedges, fences, walls or on each side of a gateway will pick them up along with other vermin thats not wanted. Quote Link to post
PolarIce 0
Just an update: I built one of these traps and it seems to work well enough to catch a rat, but it has not caught the weasels. I will have to try baiting it next and let you know how it goes. But with the rats moving back in, it is usually a good sign that the weasels have moved out. We only seem to have trouble with weasels in the winter. Thanks anyway! Quote Link to post

john b 38
It would be worth checking the balance of the see-saw too it might not be sensitive enough to tip for a weasel. Add a little counter weight to the top end and it will flip more easily. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
If you are in Canada as your flying flag on your details suggests it might be that we are talking about two different creatures here - your weasels in the USA and Canada are what we would call stoats or ermines, our weasels are significantly smaller animals. I have never caught a stoat in a see-saw trap which might be a valid point in your experimentation - it seems that our weasels are caught far more readily. OTC Quote Link to post
fish 148
think you are right there OTC all the years i have been using seesaws have had only one stoat in a seesaw. Quote Link to post
PolarIce 0
Thanks for all the advice. I have tried to add a bit of a counterweight so that the seesaw is more sensitive, but as of yet, no dice. We have caught a few more rats in the trap though. It is summer and most of the weasels have moved out for now. My son enjoys trapping the rats though and he is having a grand time. Thanks again for all your help. Quote Link to post
