Squirrel_Basher 17,100
I would put it down to the tree type that the bucks are cleaning on .Pine sap or the tannin within must but a darker dye than our deciduous trees.Either way there is a definate divide between roe heads north and south .We tend to get spread beams whereas the scottish heads are tight and straight .Nice head there vissy especially if called in May Edited May 3, 2010 by foxdropper Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Cheers for the replies lads I see what you mean about the colour there mate, thats a quality head This one is still pretty light coloured, especially at the back of the coronets... I've just weighed it properly (without balancing it with my hand ) and it's come up as 555 grams. Its just hanging in the shed air drying at the moment - not sure how long to leave it or where to go from here to be honest so if anyone has any tips thats would be great I want to do him justice Quote Link to post
wireviz 8
Local if you leave it for three weeks it will have dried out and you can assess the head you shot properly. But for it to be official then you need to wait ninety days. The weight you have after taking off 90 gram will be the weight that the head is judged on. So lets say it stops at 500 you take off ninety and that will be how its judge you are looking for it to be any thing over 450 if you want it to make a medal as a full scull. I THINK THAT SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. Hope this helps. Quote Link to post

waidmann 105
i have always found that bucks stripping on earl and ash seem to be darker(normally wet forest edge deer). depending on the age/pearling that would have gotten you a gold where i lived in germany(they consider 400 to be heavy, most i have shot have been between 300 and 350gramms). a cracking buck, well done(you will never forget him!!). waidmann Quote Link to post
