ol26 2
just a quick question.. i had my hob vasectamised earlier this year and stuck him in with my jills about 2 weeks later as they came in season. they have all come out of season so im guessing its doing the trick, but the fist one that went in is looking a bit fat and maybe preganant??? i know if a bloke has a vasectomy he can still get a bird pregant for the first couple of times - same for ferrets??? oh and does anyone have an intact working silver or light coloured small hob in the mids to breed with a cracking working silver Jill? for couple of the litter or use of my vasectomised hob? Ideation 8,216
1st thing don't breed any kind of silver hob to your silver jill or you will end up with a litter of genetically weak and possibly deformed kits. Put a good polecat over her as they will be free from traits and you will get the normal spread of colours. Or if your wanting more silver kits (and this is highly questionable) use an albino. Jai. Kay 3,709
To be honest there seems to be very few vasectomys work .. i put it down to the job not being done properly by the vet .. that's another story though ideally i would have left the hob at least 6 to 8 weeks before using him .. its highly likely you have 2 litters on the way .. you could be lucky & find its not the case .. but i would prepare yourself for the possibility of 2 litters just in case Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Its a gamble till the first time it works mate .you have to wait the required time period then just hope for the best . the vets offer to send the snipped bits away and get them tested to see they have done the operation right for another £50 just say if youve no done it right you can have x amount of 8 week old kits free handed in by me and see what they say Quote Link to post

Rake aboot 4,935
Aye Have used snipped hobs for a few years now and always worked.Have to give them a bit of time to work their "live rounds " out of their system before putting them over a jill. Once had a wee jill that was lined with a proven snipped hob and went on to have a phantom pregnancy that resulted in her birthing a small fetus type object. Somebody explain to me why I should not breed Black eyed white (silver,,same things) ferrets to each other as when I did, it resulted in a good crop of healthy kits of various colouring Quote Link to post
wullieh 53
The vey will tell you that you must wait 8 wks after getting your hob a vasectomey but i rather wait 12 weeks as this allows time for any live sperm to die off as even if the op is a success, as the sperm is said to be live in the tubes until a further 6 weeks, but this is from a vet and as i said i wait 12 as i would rather double it.
