High protein is only really a problem if they aren't getting enough work in my view and even then its not a health problem but a over hyper, etc, problem. The dog isn't long in telling you if the feed ain't right for the work load.

At 5 month you want a dog that isn't too full of energy that it wont listen to you. Think of kids full of E type numbers and how hyper they get. If you find he isn't listening to you then I'd cut back on the protein. Too much is put into the feeds now a days as if its the be all end all. Dogs have been running LONG before these fancy brands came onto the scene and they've done ok through the years. Like most of the products on offer, they are more to attract the owners than benefit the dog. If its just a pup mate, go with a cheap nugget brand, mixed with meat and if his stools don't stiffen up, you might try adding a few slices of brown bread into the mix. Just my opinion mind you.... There are higher percentages out there, Red Mills Excel is 32% but as I've said above I wouldn't feed Red Mills. I usually bring pups up on a mixture of raw meat and Chudleys Working Crunch or sometimes Chudleys Greyhound and that seems to do the job.
