Is this right?

Recommended Posts

I've just read a topic on another forum, where the poster is bragging about catching pheasants and mallard out of season.

While I understand that some people poach for the pot, I was brought up to believe that you didn't take game during the breeding season, so I posted a reply:

I've nothing against a bit of 'pot filling', but why are you taking gamebirds during the breeding season?

To me, a good countryman knows the seasons and respects them.

Straight away, the forum admin has removed any further right to reply by me on that thread, and the original poster has replied with this:

ive just been out to the kennel and had a quite word with alsation x greyhound bitch and shes promised me she wont catch another gamebird out of season. THERES ALWAYS ONE NO WONDER ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT WRITE ON THESE SITES, Ive only been at the game 40 yrs must inprove my country skills

I've PM'd the site admin, but as yet have received no reply.

To me, it isn't the legalities that are most important but the morality. The original poster thinks that being a 'true countryman' is all about skill, but I think it's more about understanding the countryside and respecting it.

What do you think?

admin should know better mate think your right on this one

You're right.

Admin should know better; but here is his reply:

matt there's a hundred hunting forums that share your views, are pheasants on the endangered list? no. they are bred and put out by the 100,000's they are a pest as much as pigeons, only difference being the hoi poloi think they are still stuck in the 1800's, game laws in this country are feudal at best and out of date.

What harm realy does it do to take one out of season? there will be millions in its place which are being artificially reared right now ready for the shooting season in the winter, you know this better than i .

Sorry Matt but looking at all your posts 90% are about seasons for game in a argumentative way, it is felt by a vast majority of both members and admin that it is just to start arguments or rifts on the forum. We have a well rum forum where disruption and agro is near non existent and so it must remain,to this end we have decided that your account must be disabled.

I used to respect this fella, but it seems that he can't enforce his own forum rules, and thinks that anyone who abides by the law and doesn't take game during the breeding season must be 'hoi poloi'.......

No names at this stage, but I thought it was more than a little ironic that there is a thread on here criticising a pest controller for killing rabbits during the summer months, and at the same time, there is a thread on there all about killing gamebirds with catapults during the summer!

I feel that a politely put across opinion is just that.......an opinion.....thumbs.gif

It is neither wrong nor right.........just an opinion..yes.gif

It should stand unless it offends...If it strikes healthy debate...so be it..

As long as it remains healthy..

And for what its worth...........I dont take game out of season...........But I am a vermin controller who controls all year round..angel.gif

Sounds like the boy is a right prick to be honest..............comparing pheasants to pigeons :wallbash: and his "are they endangered" statement sums him completely up, does this mean he will kill anything thats in abundance?

stop being a grass and get a life, who cares

A 'grass'?

How do you make that out?

I've not named the site concerned, or the admin (who is a member here), I posted to see if it was just me that thought it was wrong.

As stated earlier, I also thought it was ironic that there was a healthy debate on here about the rights and wrongs of killing rabbits in the summer, while over there people are congratulating a member who is taking game birds during the breeding season.

I could have just kept quiet about it, but chose to post the question on there, and got a ban for my troubles.

The site is well known, and I left once before when a member posted a picture of a live roe deer being ragged by two lurchers "to see how long it took them to do their job".....

Still, I don't really care about not being a member anymore; it just worries me that these people are doing this and giving anyone with a catupult or running dog a bad name.

Respect for our quarry overides everything else IMO.
