mjr88 50
Hi all I've decided that i want to join a shooting club in my local area and i have a question : On the application form it states that although i already hold an FAC i will still need to pass either the .22 NSRA safe shooting course or the equivalent NRA course for centre fire. As i've never been involved with any shooting club before , i was just wondering if any of you guys have, and could give me some advice of what to expect on these courses, Many thanks , John Edited May 1, 2010 by mjr88 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Unfortunately this is a load more B******t brought about by Health & Safety and the fear of being sued for ££££££££££££ The NRA produce a Booklet of 60 pages which tells you all about it (Probationary Training Course), email training@nra.org.uk. Frankly, the majority is common sense and simply writing down what everyone does as a norm anyway. You cannot shoot at Bisley, or any other Military range, without your Shooter Certification Card. The NSRA is probably similar, I don't know. Doesn't seem to apply to sub 12ft lb air rifles! Quote Link to post

On the back of the card it states firearm types that you are certified to use, each type has to be initialed by the clubs chairman and signed. I have my old card in front of me which expired 4-1-10. I didn't go to any course but then the club chairman had known me for a long time and knew what I shot. It might be different this year (?) or your club might run a course, just ask the guys at the club. John Edited May 1, 2010 by HUnter_zero Quote Link to post

NEW members have to go through the NRA course, or a Club course approved by the NRA. As mjr88 is apparently not a member of a club he will need to be certified. The NRA is getting really hot on these and banned a club in the early part of the year for flouting the rules, they have also made it very clear they will be doing spot checks and full club inspections!! That explains why I had one of the cards foisted on me. I'm not much of a club man to be honest. I use the outdoor range for testing reloads and practice / zeroing. John Quote Link to post
