I've often thought about getting someone the dogs don't know to pretend to try and have a go at me to see what their reactions would be. I'd put money on the terrier steaming in, the lurchers a soft arse but he might surprise me, if he did go it'd hurt a lot more than the terrier.

My sister was walking one of my spaniels a few years back-a bitch that was soft as shite and would piss her self if shouted at. (the spaniel, not my sister!) a guy stopped his car and offered my sister "a lift". The spaniel went apeshit, lunging at the car, seeing the twat off good style.I would never have believed it of her,but instinct must have taken over.

I had a similar experience a few years later when my collie lurcher drove off a stallion intent on running me into the ground- definitely saved my arse.

Never saved my life but my cattle dog lurcher is protective, if in the garden someone walks in he doesnt know, he stands up and his hackles come up and he stares them out, once i speak to them hes ok.

Same when I used to lamp him, if he heard something untowards, voices noises he would give a low growl.

My first ACD once dark, any noise he used to throw himself at the run hanging off the fence, i used to have to change the chain link every year, in the end had to lock him in at night, for some peace.

My dog saved me from some pissed off cows one night. Whilst lamping tha cows got spooked and charged me and my mate. we had our backs to a barb wire fence and they butted me and my mate..with this my dog came steaming in guns a blazing, making the cows back off just enough to scramble the fence! to say i crapped my self would be an under statement....A week later headlines of local paper reported an old chap tramppled to death by cows walking his dog..not too many miles from where we was..

Common knowledge mate that a dog will attract the attention of cattle - chance are if you didnt have the dog you wouldnt have had any bother at all.

Unless you are 100% competent with livestock I wouldnt go in a field with them - especially not with a dog.

Lamping a field last season and i had given the little bitch a long slip, off she went chasing mister rabbit.

Next thing i know a horse has bowled me over and im down in the mud,the horse is stamping all around me and im thinking 'shit,im f****d here'.

Little bitch came racing back and got stuck into the horse, yep i reckon she saved me from a good stamping.

if i didnot have the dog i would not catch any game...you self rightous prick...what sort of replie is that....

FFS, take a pill.

What im saying is it was the dog that probably made the cattle rush you - if you were on your own feck all would have happened.

Some people have no manners...
