Dont you think that it would be better getting someone who knew what they were doing to deal with this as snareing gets enough bad publicity as it is.If it is an occupied earth a terrier would be best option as its legal under English law to protect gamebirds again get an experienced terrierman.

Dont snare a hole it has to be in the open. build a pen to catch them basicly a wire mesh passage going round in circles till it gets to a penned bird the snare is placed in the passage way

It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to use any live animal as bait for a trap.

If you don't know of a local terrierman, you may well pick it up on a dawn stalk. A few strategically placed wires around a shoot can pay for themselves in no time at all. Tramlines in growing corn, the gap between the electric fence and your pen wire, and runs through hedges are the obvious places to use.

The last thing you need when trying to preserve game is a litter of cubs in the vicinity.

For fox wires, go to Trapworks

Don't set a snare on a fox earth hole, it's a novice's way and looks pathetic on the hunting community. Fox snares are best set in runs or stink pits. I've caught plenty of foxes in stink pits but it's not a fast way of catching them. A stink pit is a 6ft round circle built up on the outsides with brash to about 2 foot high off of the floor with six or so entrances with a snare on each of them and put some carcasses in the middle but check the snares twice a day. I know you pessimists on here will want to know if it's legal: http://www.rspb.org.uk/Images/legaleagle58_tcm9-223309.pdf
