trappa 518
Just wondering what you kids are foraging at the moment? Its not a great time of the year. Young bunnies are about, they taste nice, and wild garlic too, but not much else really. Anyone collecting something i should be?!?! In the allotment there is plenty rhubarb, but thats about it. Rolfe 2
Garlic Mustard or Jack-by-the-hedge is just ready now...........pick the young leaves and slice thinly to mix with salad or even better to put in a beef sandwich as an added filler. Lovely mild garlicy/mustard flavour
neil cooney 10,416
Just google Nettle ale or beer. I more or less copied the recipe of the the River Cottage web site. It's nearly the same procedure as making Elderflower Champagne and after slightly opening one bottle it seems just as explosive. I'm going to leave it for another few days before trying. I'm told it will be around 4.5%.
neil cooney 10,416
I tried to slightly release some of the gas from a bottle this morning but released 2 pints of nettle ale in less than a second instead. The interior of my shed, my fishing tackle, tool box, knives, the terrier standing at my feet and myself got soaked. Then as I stood there soaked it started to drip from the ceiling on to me so I took a bottle and got out. I put the bottle in the fridge and left for the day. This evening a hunting friend and I drank the bottle and it was worth the effort. There's a slight smell off the ale (if you'd call it ale) but it's very tasty. Try it.
