skycat 6,174
I've found that some pups are really whingy sods, until they start work. Its as though they don't know what to do with themselves, but once they are out in the field and finding an outlet for all the energy and frustration they calm down. Personally I'd not put up with a whingy dog: hate the things. If the dog lives in the house just ignore it when it whines, as others have suggested, but do make sure it always has something to do: big bones, toys to chew. Also, has the dog got its own personal space to sleep? It should have its own bed in a quiet corner somewhere out of the way of kids and goings on, not necessarily shut away. Some dogs get over stimulated by busy family life and can't shut down and switch off to rest. You can also train the dog to go to its bed and stay there which should quieten it down a bit. Meerihunter 7
More exercise, much more exercise, only then are you in any position to ask anything of the dog, if it still whines after increased exercise then firm consistent consequence, meaning enough to let the dog know you are not happy with it's behaviour, nothing more nothing less.
