Boghossian 0
That is a good trophy fallow. Do you get a lot of mature bucks that size your way? I have shot some fallow in Galway but even the old bucks had pretty poor horns, not that we cared. Quote Link to post

I have shot some fallow in Galway but even the old bucks had pretty poor horns, not that we cared. Thanks. Hows it going.? That particular place was somewhere in the west, bit south west. The heads are fairly good, as we have been selective culling their for the past 6 years, since we got the permission. Before that, they were hit and miss, some good heads, mostly bad. Where in Galway do you shoot?, only place up that way iv been is near woodford, years ago, someone else has it now. Local/Yokel, cheers sir. Frank. Quote Link to post
Boghossian 0
It was near Woodford, crawling with fallow and lots of black ones too. My mate doesn't have the lease anymore so I will be in Wicklow in 3 weeks for some sika stalking. Do you ever stalk on Coilte lettings or is it all private permission? I just get across to stalk 1-2 times a year. Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Its all Private stalking mainly, some private forestry aswell. We came across a poor old fallow buck last week, that had been shot and the head taken off. Couple of months ago, we found 2 Fellas going round of late, cutting their heads off and leaving the bodys, what a waste. On a good note, we informed the local wildlife ranger, who in turn, contacted the guards, who were very interested to find out who would be doing this sort of thing. The bodys of the deer were taken and sent to a lab, as they were chest shot and in some of them, some bullet was still in them. They have looked these up and apparently all rifles, within a certain area are going to be called in soon, for ballistic testeing , so hopefully, the culprits will be caught. What a long way, Southern Ireland has come , back in the 's, their would not be the resources, to do such a thing. Frank. Quote Link to post
Boghossian 0
There wouldn't be as many rifles in Eire as there are now either. I believe recreational stalking has taken off in a big way over the last 10 years. The price of coilte lettings can be pretty high, though not comparable with UK stalking (especially near London). Frank do you have any updates on the pistol situation? My mates all ran out and bought handguns but are not being allowed to keep them at home or use them.... Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
As far as i know, if you have a good reason to want a pistol, (target shooting), their is no way, the guards can stop you. Not yet anyhow, it might change, when the new criminal justice bill comes in though I would suggest them to contact Des Crofton, of the N.A.R.G.C, he is very good. Are they a member of this organisation? As well as being in a gun club? Frank. Quote Link to post
Boghossian 0
Yes, and they have the guns and licences. Just aren't being allowed to keep them at home, even if they have a safe. Frank, have you done any red or red/hybrid stalking? I saw some cracking stags last time I was in Kerry, of course they are protected but hopefully they will spread! Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
They are spreading alright, so much that the red does have been open season, last year and this year, but not the stags. I have not shot any yet, or my freinds, but their is plenty around, the hybrid problem, seems worse in wiclkow, but their is some in Kerry. Frank. Quote Link to post
