dytkos 17,800
can ferrets live on own. They can mate but it's as easy to keep 2 as it is to keep one. Ferts are social animals and you'll get the most from them if they have a buddy. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
I have had many ferrets over the years who just wont tolerate another one ... Quote Link to post

wullieh 53
The longer you have your ferret on its own the harder it might be to get it to accept another one, get another one from a a jit that way there less chance of fighting, and the more you have the more enjoyment you get from them not just in the field but when sitting out the back in the summer watching them run about there run playing. stealthy1 3,964
Given the choice, would you live in a cage on your own, or would you prefer to live with a mate? Quote Link to post

max abell 196
We have always kept all ours in a together all year round including bert our vasectomised hob without any probs Most of our 10 jills have been spayed but the 3 that have not are my very best workers so if i want to breed a litter from one of them we take them out put them with my mates compleat hob after about 20 days we put that jill in her own cage to have her babies in peace then she is returned to the court when the kitts are weaned bert is quite a gentle hob and doesnt tend to rag the compleate jills to much he does his job and then lays out in the aviary sunbathing all summer WHAT A HARD LIFE Quote Link to post
fieldsportsman 107
but if I have to wait for my hobs balls to drop before I can get him vasectomised to stop him from mating a jill hill have to be on his own for a while, or can I both hob and jill kits in together and wait for hobs balls to drop with out him getting jill pregnant. or shall i just get jill sprayed but is it expensive. scothunter 12,609
well yea they can live alone contrary to popular belief they dont.in the wild a hob poley will only come in contact with another poley for breeding.other than that he lives a mainly solitary life Quote Link to post
fieldsportsman 107
didnt sean frain only have 1 hob ferret whe he first started. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
if you were to get this years kitts, you aint got to worry about breeding until next year, wether you get homes or jills, 2 x jills can live together all year round, but you'd need to either get them jabbed next year, or run them with a snipped hob, 2 x hobs can live together all year round, if you get two brothers as kitts, they will live together, keeping an eye on them next year for to much aggression, and if so, get both castrated, or split them in the summer months, and get one snipped I have 3 intact hobs that live together all year round, no fighting I also have 4 castrated hobs that stay with the jills, and they still mate, even though they aint got balls Quote Link to post
tote 854
I have had many ferrets over the years who just wont tolerate another one ... I've got one like that at the moment, but to be fair it's the only one i've had in over 25 years. The short answer to the original question is,-Yes. But most prefer company. Quote Link to post
